Full-time Description This position reports directly to the Manager of Youth Programming and serves as a lead mentor and instructional resource for Bridge and Mavericks coaches, as well as adaptive lesson instructors. While this role does not include formal supervisory duties such as hiring, scheduling, or timecard approval, the Specialized Swim Instructor and Head Youth Coach is responsible for supporting staff development, modeling best practices, and ensuring team members meet program standards and follow established policies and procedures. This role involves teaching and coaching swimmers ages 5-17, as well as select adult participants, across a wide range of skill levels. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Swim Instructors at Sutton Swim School are active and engaged throughout each shift. To ensure the safety and success of all students, instructors must be comfortable speaking clearly and listening attentively in a busy pool environment; standing, walking, crouching, and swimming for extended periods; using their hands to demonstrate skills, organize equipment, and assist students; and lifting, holding, or moving equipment and occasionally helping small children (up to 50 pounds). Good vision-both close-up, distance, and peripheral-and the ability to adjust focus as needed to monitor the pool are required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the entry-level classification in the Water Safety series. Incumbents in this class are primarily responsible for instructing swim skills at all skill levels in addition to as acting as a lifeguard but may also perform general duties to assist with pool maintenance and operations.
