All positions are part-time and located in the Cobb County PARKS Department and may be filled as a Lifeguard or Lifeguard/Instructor, depending upon qualifications. The water skills will be the pre-requisite for the lifeguarding class if the applicant isn't certified. Applicants may be asked to complete the water skills as part of the interview process. Applicants must pass a pre-course swimming skills test prior to taking lifeguarding courses. The water skills test consist of the following: * 300-yard swim using front crawl or breaststroke * Two-minute tread using legs only * The ability to retrieve a 10-lb dive weight from 7 ft. deep, surface and swim 20 yds. with the weight using legs only and exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds Multiple positions are available at the following locations: * Central Aquatics * West Cobb Aquatics * Mountain View Aquatics * South Cobb Aquatics Lifeguard: $17.00/hr. (Grade: 100P) Lifeguard/Instructor: $17.51/hr. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Part-Time Lifeguard: Must be age 15 or older. Must be able to pass a water/skills test. High School Diploma or GED preferred. Part-Time Lifeguard/Instructor: Must be age 16 or older. Must be able to pass a water/skills test. High School Diploma or GED supplemented by one year of experience in lifeguarding is preferred. Part-Time Lifeguard: The following nationally-recognized certifications are preferred: Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid. Part-Time Lifeguard/Instructor: The following nationally-recognized certifications are preferred: Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, CPR, and First Aid. Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, hazardous materials, fire, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, electric currents, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, water hazards, violence, disease, or difficult customers.

The Swim Instructor is responsible for maintaining a safe and engaging swimming class environment for swimmers by teaching age/level appropriate lessons in accordance with the MJCCA Swim Lessons Curriculum, while also enforcing pool/facility rules and protocols. Essential Functions: Teach private and semi-private swim lessons in accordance with the MJCCA Curriculum. Maintain timeliness with each swim lesson and follow pool schedule closely. Check out lessons in the Pike13 app daily. Send out the Progress Report Cards to parents. Communicate with parents and schedule make-up lessons. Substitute for coworkers as needed. Attend required staff training and meetings. Rescue participants in danger of drowning; administer first-aid/CPR if required. Complete accident reports thoroughly if accidents occur. Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet scheduling needs. Support the emotional and social wellbeing of swim students through positive behavior management and supportive interactions. Follow all emergency procedures at the MJCCA. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Competitive swimming experience preferred. Past coaching/teaching experience required. Current CPR/AED Certification (Adult and Pediatric) required. Current WSI Certification preferred. Ability to swim and teach all four competitive swim strokes. Excellent communication skills.
