  • Part-time Swim Instructor

    City of Coeur D'Alene, Id

Swim instructor job in Coeur dAlene, ID

Our successful swim program is seeking to hire swim instructors.. We are a year-round program that teaches water safety and swimming skills to children ages 3-9 years old. The program is divided into four small classes to offer more individual instruction. This is a train-to-hire position. Candidates interested in this job will shadow with our staff of instructors and have access to our staff-written swim manual to prepare them well for this role. We offer lots of help and guidance in a low-pressure atmosphere to ensure an upbeat workspace. We are looking for positive, reliable, and fun-loving individuals who will help children grow in confidence and skill in the water. This is a great position for students, parents, or those who want a side position in the evenings. The instructor position we have the most need for is for our preschool students ages 3-5 years old. This is our introductory class; students will learn to blow bubbles, putting their faces in the water, back floats, freestyle, diving for rings, and jumps. Our second position is for advanced swimmers ages 6-10 years old. Students will be taught the four basic strokes (freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly) in preparation for swim team. The class is currently taught 5-8pm, Mondays and Wednesdays, and 9:30-11:30am on Saturdays, for a total of approximately 8.5 hours per week. An optional parent-toddler class at 9-9:30am will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays once we have enough interested parents. An additional date for special needs instruction may be available based on participants who sign up. Dates are flexible: if you can only work select days, the director will do their best to accommodate these circumstances. Substitute instructors are often available Mondays and Wednesdays 5-8pm, and Saturdays 9am-11:30am. This is to accommodate our permanent instructors who may become ill, need time off, ect. As there are two subs, the time blocks have flexibility based on your ability to come in and instruct when asked. Subs are asked to have a well-rounded knowledge when it comes to swimming skills to fill in for any of the four classes taught. There is room for growth, as substitute instructors often take over for teachers who leave to pursue other career paths. Minimum Requirements: * CPR/First Aid Certified. If you do not currently have the certification, you will be given a grace period to obtain one as a condition of employment. * Lifeguard Certification and WSI preferred, but not required. * Previous experience with children strongly preferred. * Must have strong communication skills, creativity, a dedication to success, and loves working with kids. * Light cleaning duties required at the end of each shift. * Reliability is key to this position. * Enthusiasm and a passion for fun is a must! * This is a perfect position for those who want to supplement their income and have a fun time doing it. Minimum Requirements: * Swim instructor experience and lifeguard experience preferred. * Must be First Aid/CPR certified. * Must be 18 years of age as of this application date.
