Head Swim Instructor Under the Aquatics Director/Coordinator, the Head Swim Instructor is responsible for maintaining a safe and engaging aquatics environment for our swimming lessons. WHAT DOES A SWIM INSTRUCTOR DO? As a Swim Instructor, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students every day. You will be responsible for teaching swimming lessons to children of all ages and skill levels, helping them develop their water safety skills and enhance their swimming abilities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include creating and implementing lesson plans, conducting group and individual lessons, and providing constructive feedback to students and their parents. You will also be responsible for ensuring the safety of all participants in the pool area and maintaining a clean and organized teaching environment. No prior teaching experience is necessary, as we provide comprehensive training to all new instructors. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.). Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: YMCA Swim Instructor Certification Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen. Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards. Previous teaching experience preferred.
