The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center (JCC) is seeking energetic, attentive and outgoing Adaptive Private Lesson Instructors. These Instructors are responsible for teaching individualized adaptive swim lessons. The hours are flexible and the pay rate is $20/hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction
Complete required training sessions with Director of Recreation & Aquatics/Special Needs Coordinator as needed.
Must be able to modify and offer alternatives to lesson objectives for participants.
Arrive on time both physically and mentally prepared to teach 5 minutes prior to the start of each lesson block.
Dress in Appropriate Swim Instructor Uniform.
Have lesson areas, including equipment, cones, and rope, set up prior to class and put away after class.
Communicate with families before or after each lesson what skills the child explored during the lesson.
American Red Cross Program Knowledge
Be familiar and comfortable teaching ages 4-18years.
Be Familiar and comfortable with the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.
Use a variety of swim lesson equipment to accomplish benchmark skills.
Communication
Update availability on the GOOGLE spreadsheet and adjust seasonally.
Read e-mail communications regarding new lessons scheduled in a 48-hour time window.
Connect via e-mail to lesson families PRIOR to the first lesson to gather any necessary information.
The private lesson instructor must track lessons taught on the reconciliation form and submit to the Director of Recreation & Aquatics bi-weekly.
Communicate with families when their lesson package is ending.
Communicate any questions, comments, or challenges weekly with the Director of Recreation & Aquatics

The Swim School Instructor is a year-round position, with hours ranging from day-time and evening during the school year at two indoor facilities, as well as mornings Monday through Saturday during the summer at the outdoor facility. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide swim instruction as outlined in the Gurnee Park District Swim Instructor Manual and to the standards of the Gurnee Park District Swim Program
Prevent accidents by following and enforcing pool rules and monitoring the class at all times
Instruct each student with patience and consideration
Instructors are required to get in the water each class
Utilize instructional aides and equipment as available
Check locker rooms between classes. Shut off showers and pick up garbage
If participant requires disciplinary action inform a manager so their parents can be notified
Keep accurate records on each and every student showing his or her progress throughout the current swim session and to update swimmers file at the end of class
Follow, promote and help implement the Gurnee Park District Customer Service Standards (SOFFI)
Maintain accurate attendance records and inform Managers if student is not attending
Maintain your class Skill Sheet each class day and keep information current
Provide Parent Letters on the first day of class
Provide Progress Reports on the last day of class
Attend every class of the session, it is the instructors responsibility to secure his or her sub if unable to attend a scheduled class and only with manager approval
Attend Swim Instructor trainings for review of skills, general information, and review of procedures
Read and understand the Gurnee Park Districts Personnel Policy Manual, Aquatic Manual, and Swim Instructor Manual.
Perform all other duties assigned to the best of your ability

Saturday: 9am-12pm
Sunday: 9am-12pm & 1pm-3pm
Monday-Thursday: 4pm-6pm
The JCC is a non-profit social services agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. Committed to meeting the ever-changing needs of the entire community, the JCC strengthens Jewish identity and enriches quality of life through diversified social, educational, recreational, and cultural programs. Operating out of five facilities throughout Wisconsin, the JCC provides the total community with a forum for open dialogue and offers inclusive wellness, education, and community services for members and guests of all backgrounds.

Attend and participate in all mandatory monthly Staff Meetings and Trainings.

Track attendance and progress of students in their assigned lessons and complete necessary paperwork during the middle and end of the swim lesson session.
Uniform requirements - swim suit.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons in a safe, professional and caring manner according to the established curriculum to ensure the participants have an overall positive experience and eventually progress to the next level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepares and carries out daily lesson plans according to established class requirements.
Keeps accurate records on progress of individual students and make decisions on appropriate class levels.
Teaches in the water every class and never turns back to the class or leaves the class unattended.
Enforces specific safety rules and regulations to prevent risks to participants.
Completes and submits progress reports and midsession reports.
Presents materials that are challenging yet appropriate for every class member and class level.
Sets out necessary equipment needed for class and puts equipment away after class.
Records daily class attendance roster and communicates with parents/guardians about child's progress in class when needed.
Secures a qualified substitute for replacement when unable to teach a class and notifies Aquatics Director in advance, when possible.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
