The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center (JCC) is seeking energetic, attentive and outgoing Adaptive Private Lesson Instructors. These Instructors are responsible for teaching individualized adaptive swim lessons. The hours are flexible and the pay rate is $20/hour. The JCC is a non-profit social services agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction Complete required training sessions with Director of Recreation & Aquatics/Special Needs Coordinator as needed. Must be able to modify and offer alternatives to lesson objectives for participants. Arrive on time both physically and mentally prepared to teach 5 minutes prior to the start of each lesson block. Dress in Appropriate Swim Instructor Uniform. Have lesson areas, including equipment, cones, and rope, set up prior to class and put away after class. Communicate with families before or after each lesson what skills the child explored during the lesson. American Red Cross Program Knowledge Be familiar and comfortable teaching ages 4-18years. Be Familiar and comfortable with the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Use a variety of swim lesson equipment to accomplish benchmark skills. Communication Update availability on the GOOGLE spreadsheet and adjust seasonally. Read e-mail communications regarding new lessons scheduled in a 48-hour time window. Connect via e-mail to lesson families PRIOR to the first lesson to gather any necessary information. The private lesson instructor must track lessons taught on the reconciliation form and submit to the Director of Recreation & Aquatics bi-weekly. Communicate with families when their lesson package is ending. Athletics/Activities/Athletic Coach Date Available: 11/01/2025 STARTING STIPEND: $2490+ (Based on Experience) Season Runs November through March SUMMARY: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill development, and create an appreciation for the values of student connectedness, discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. OVERALL DUTIES Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved. Plans, schedules, and attends a regular program of practice in season. Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted. As a Lifeguard Instructor, you will be responsible for conducting Lifeguard trainings and in services in accordance with certification standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Instruct Lifeguard trainings for the YMCA, according to the guidelines of the American Red Cross. Ensure participants learn the concepts and skills necessary to become certified, signing off on certifications for those who have successfully completed the written and physical components. Create a welcoming and supportive class environment. Clean equipment used during the training and ensure that it is in good working condition. Inform your supervisor if additional supplies need to be ordered, or if equipment needs repair. Know and follow the center Emergency Action Plan. Assist first responders as needed in rescue situations. Attend required staff trainings and meetings. Maintain required certifications. Communicate with the Aquatics Directors regarding the progress of the class and its participants, as well as any concerns/problems associated with the Lifeguard course. Assist participants in applying for open positions at the conclusion of the course. Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children which includes: Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children. Attend required abuse risk management training. Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements. SKILLS AND TRAINING Current YMCA Lifeguarding, Red Cross Lifeguard Training, or Boy Scouts of America Lifeguarding required. Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid required. Current Lifeguard Instructor certification required. Previous facilitation or instruction in these types of classes preferred. Must be knowledgeable about all of the pool rules and regulations as stated in the Lifeguard Manual. Must be at least 17 years old. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ongoing evaluation of physical demands of the position will happen monthly. Must be able to swim 300 yards (using front crawl and breast stroke), tread water for 2 minutes, demonstrate rescue skills, retrieve the brick from the bottom of the deep pool.
