and pass on the love you have for swimming to others of all ages. The primary responsibility of our certified Swim Instructor is to teach both group and private swimming lessons. Classes are small to ensure plenty of individual attention and practice time. All levels will include basic water skills and stroke technique as well as introducing a wide range of personal safety skills while making time together fun. • Experience teaching beginner-level child or adult to swim and to be safe in, on and around the water.
• Good instincts assessing each person's comfort-level with the water.
• Patience in teaching a fearful individual and instilling confidence in them.
• Able to adapt lessons to each student's readiness to progress.
• Ability to create and follow lesson plans including swimming drills and verbal cues to prevent boredom and increase learning.
• Positive communication skills to both the student and, or guardian including knowing each student by name.
• Adheres to Center and Department Standard Operating Procedures.
• Never ever would leave any student alone in the Aquatics area nor in the water.

Requirements:

Wage: $11.00 Lifeguards - 12.00 WSI

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of general duties to ensure pool patron safety at the facility. Maintain the pool facility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general direction of the Aquatics Manager, the Pool Supervisor and Head Guards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential functions include lifeguarding along with assisting in first aid of pool patrons as needed. Maintains pool area, restrooms and locker rooms. Assists Aquatics Manager, Pool Supervisor and head guards when necessary. Performs other related work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education and Experience:

1. Any combination of training and experience which will indicate possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.

1. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
   Knowledge of aquatics facility operation along with knowledge of facility rules and regulations. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions Able to be courteous to fellow employees and pool patrons.
2. Special Qualifications:
   Must possess current lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications. Must be 16 years old.
3. Work Environment:
   Incumbent of the position performs in a typical pool setting with appropriate climate controls and typical settings associated with indoor/outdoor recreation. Tasks require a variety of physical activities. Communicating, i.e. talking, hearing, and seeing, is essential to job effectiveness. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.

Responsibilities

* Contribute to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.
* Enforce all posted rules and any other rules that are required to ensure the safety of all participants.
* Teach swim lessons to participants at appropriate age levels, per national guidelines of course levels and ratios.
* Plan lessons for classes, be well prepared for lesson.
* Responsible for set up and tear down of lessons (includes all utilized equipment).
* Take attendance at all classes.
* Responsible for updating all areas and certifications through the YMCA training certification program as needed for position.
* Responsible to assist in the cleanliness of the pool and reporting any maintenance needs.

Qualifications

* Must be at least 16 years of age.
* American Safety and Health Institute certifications (free training available):
* Current First Aid.
* Current CPRPro (includes AED).
* Current Emergency Oxygen.
* YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor (free training available).
* Must be able to relate and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
