Swinerton company history timeline

1889

A collapse of the real estate market in 1889 put many people out of business, including Boyd, Sharples & Lindgren.

1908

1908: Lindgren forms partnership with brother, Fred; hires Alfred Swinerton as estimator.

1911

By 1911 he was a shareholder and a member of Lindgren's board of directors.

1917

In April 1917 the United States entered World War I, and Lindgren was chosen by the government to build an army training facility, Camp Fremont, in San Mateo.

1923

Alfred Swinerton how headed Lindgren, and in recognition of his hard work and contributions, the board of directors voted in 1923 to change the company's name to Lindgren & Swinerton, Inc.

1927

The company still operates under California contractor’s license number 92-the one it obtained in 1927 when the state first began issuing licenses.

1939

1939: Lindgren & Swinerton build 263-mile Barco pipeline across Andes Mountains.

1941

By the summer of 1941, relations between Lindgren & Swinerton and Anglo-California were so bad that no one knew what the contractor's fate would be.

1955

1955: Atomic Energy Commission chooses Swinerton & Walberg to build Rocky Flats plutonium production center near Denver.

1964

1964: Swinerton & Walberg begins construction of Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco.

1985

A 1985 crane accident, also in Los Angeles, killed three workers.

1989

However, a 1989 crane accident in San Francisco killed five people and injured 21 others.

1996

In 1996, the Swinerton group was organized under the umbrella company Swinerton Inc., with Dave Grubb as chairman.

2000

2000: Swinerton reaches $1 billion in revenue.
