BAE Systems switch technician job description

Job Description BAE Systems is seeking layer one switch Technicians to be part of our experienced technical team at the Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) Wallops, Island, VA. This job will require working within a team to evaluate and correct various problems on Navy baseline interconnections. SCSC is located on a barrier island on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and is a tenant of the NASA's Wallops Flight Facility. SCSC provides live combat systems suites with platform specific radars and sensors and supports the following functions: combat system lifetime support engineering, platform certification, operational and technical evaluation, combat system training, interoperability testing and participates in Live at-sea and air exercises. SCSC provides a high-fidelity combat systems capable of replicating the configuration of every ship in the AEGIS and Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) fleet today, as well as future ship platforms.
Responsibilities

1) Perform correcting maintenance on the switching system.

2) Perform engineering tasks to update and activate new switches as necessary. This to include updating AutoCAD drawings, writing and executing test plans.

3) Fiber troubleshooting, dressing, and cable management.

4) Troubleshoot paths to include, NTDS serial, NTDS parallel, and RJ45 Ethernet.

5) Troubleshoot a layer 2 network to maintain a GUI for the various layer 1 operating systems.

6) Maintain a database called NGSC to include site equipment and site stored configurations.

7) Successful candidate must be willing and able to perform in a variety of 40 hour work-week configurations to possibly include evenings and weekends on a rotating basis.

8) Participate in the Navy Lock Out Tag Out and audit process, including SCSC Blue Tag program and audits Required Education, Experience, & Skills Minimum education and years of related/relevant experience required: High School/GED and at least 2 years demonstrated experience assessing, troubleshooting, and performing corrective/preventive maintenance on electrical and/or mechanical systems and/or equipment, or an Associate's Degree in a technical discipline.

Security clearance requirement: This position requires the successful candidate to be able to obtain a Secret level clearance. The criteria for obtaining and holding a clearance are driven by US government requirements. You must be a US citizen to obtain a security clearance. If selected candidate is not in possession of an active Secret clearance, then he/she will receive a contingent offer and start date will be delayed until an interim Secret clearance is granted.Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills CompTIA Security+ or equivalent

The Advanced Switch Activation Technician performs provisioning of all complex assignments of switch POTS, Business, PRI, SIP, Centrex and IP lines and trunks for either the Lucent 5E or Meta switch platform. Additionally, works with Altice Field Technicians, customer and customer's vendor on service test and turn-up of new services. The Advanced Switch Activation Technician is expected to mentor new switch and less experienced switch technicians. Will be cross trained in Hosted Voice products and services
* Train and mentor all lower level grade switch technicians
* Perform all line translations for customers including SIP, ISDN, Centrex, PRI etc
* Perform all trunk translations for Network Connectivity
* Work with Lightpath Field Technicians, Vendors and other Carriers on the implementation of new services and facilities.
* Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned
* Work with Project Manager, Sales and other Lightpath departments to ensure the successful provisioning and implementation of all new products and services.
* Must be able to implement, service and maintain all software features of the 5ESS, and Meta switches
* Provision and Activation of SIP and Hosted related voice services
* Learn all ancillary Voice products sold and supported
* Must be able to work closely with Switch/Hosted Engineers and equipment vendors on complex issues and projects
* Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned
* Internally and Externally port in numbers using NPAC, Bandwidth and Neustar Databases.
* 5 or more years of telephone systems experience including: hardware functionality, software operation, feature operation, interaction of software and hardware, routing, IP gateways, feature servers and web portals
* 1-2 years TCP/IP and VoIP telephony maintenance/operations experience
* Able to identify, diagnose and resolve complex switch network problems
* Ability to work closely with other departments and carriers to resolve complex network problems
* HS Diploma or equivalent
* College Degree a plus

EXPERIENCE

* Advanced testing utilizing SAS call trace, Adtran debug, Wire Shark, etc.
* Knowledge of related edge device equipment such as IAD, Siparators, Adit600
* Meta Bulk Provisioning tool, Secure CRT
* Advance circuit troubleshooting
* Understands routers and switches and networking topology
* SIP technical experience
* Basic transport knowledge - IP, Ethernet (10/100 baseT and Optical Gigabit) via SONET transport
