Job Summary:
The Switchboard Operator serves as the primary point of contact for incoming calls Juvenile Court. This position supports the court's administrative functions by routing calls, providing accurate information to the public, and assisting with general clerical tasks. The role requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
* Operate multi-line telephone systems to answer, screen, and route incoming calls to appropriate departments, court divisions, or personnel.
* Provide general information regarding court procedures, hearing schedules, office hours, and directions, while maintaining compliance with court communication policies.
* Respond to inquiries from the public, attorneys, law enforcement, social service agencies, and other stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner.
* Monitor and manage call volume, ensuring timely handling of high-traffic periods.
* Document and relay messages accurately using approved systems or logs.
* Assist visitors by directing them to the appropriate service windows, departments, or waiting areas, as needed.
* Handle sensitive or confidential information in accordance with Juvenile Court regulations, privacy laws, and best practices.
* Perform administrative tasks, including filing, data entry, printing schedules, scanning documents, and distributing mail.
* Support emergency or high-priority communications, relaying urgent information promptly to designated staff members.
* Maintain a calm, professional demeanor when interacting with distressed or emotional callers related to juvenile matters.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience working in a court, legal office, or government agency.
* Knowledge of Juvenile Court procedures and terminology.
Work Environment:
* Office-based setting within the Juvenile Court building.
* Frequent interaction with the public and court personnel.
* May involve exposure to emotionally sensitive cases and callers.
Travel:
No travel is expected for this position.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional court environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This includes two fifteen minute breaks and paid half hour for lunch.

Unusual Working Conditions:
Must have valid driver's license. Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods of time. Walking may be required.
