Interns conduct field research using standardized protocols and work directly with biologists and Natural Resource Managers on military lands. This is a field-focused position. Interns typically spend four days each week outdoors and one day completing data entry, writing, and administrative tasks. Fieldwork involves documenting milkweed presence, identifying blooming plants, and recording monarch eggs, larvae, and adults. Interns also support outreach activities designed to inspire interest in monarchs, pollinators, and migration among military families and school-aged children. All interns write biweekly blogs and attend virtual team meetings and webinars. Interns who continue into the fall season assist with capturing, tagging, and measuring monarchs during migration. April -August ***** $400/month and free housing! ***** Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is a not-for-profit, AZA accredited organization, and the Prairie Grouse Conservation Internship's focus is on the breeding season of the highly endangered Attwater's Prairie Chicken. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center offers its Prairie Grouse Conservation Internship from April to August (dates are flexible). This breeding program is paramount in the reintroduction and recovery of this species of prairie grouse. Interns take part in the daily feeding, cleaning, diet preparation, visual observations, chick development, and daily assessments. Healthy chicks are then slotted for future breeding, or for the annual U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service release program. Resumes are accepted year-round for this position. Applicants must be available from late March / early April through mid / late August. This internship is only available during the spring semester. Candidates should have an interest in and dedication to wildlife conservation. Must be graduated or out of school due to the internship coinciding with the breeding season of the Attwater's prairie chicken. Interns will be required to work weekends, holidays and in inclement weather including 100º temperatures. Strong communication and organizational skills are necessary as well as attention to fine details. Being able to work independently but in a team atmosphere is also required. Similar to the other internships at Fossil Rim, on-site housing and transportation are provided. A valid driver's license is required. Desired Experience, Capabilities and Educational Skills: Undergraduate degree in wildlife management, conservation biology, or a related scientific discipline attained prior to start of internship. You must also have a valid driver's license. Stipend /Housing: $400/month stipend and free onsite housing in a shared living environment is mandatory during your internship. State Park Police Officer Cadets not passing the entrance physical readiness test at the minimum requirement will have their conditional job offer rescinded and will be sent home. Cadets sent home due to not passing the entrance physical readiness test or who resign from the Game Warden Academy will be required to reapply and complete the application process again if the applicant wishes to attend a future Game Warden Academy. While holding the handgun with both hands, the applicant must transition to the kneeling position and dry fire the pistol five times while holding the barrel inside a 5-inch ring without touching the sides of the ring. After the exercise is complete, the applicant is required to return to the standing position and using both hands, pull the slide to the rear locked position therefore displaying a safe weapon. Swim Test: Applicants must fall backwards into the pool and tread water for 1 minute (body upright treading water not merely floating), without touching the sides or the bottom of the pool. After the 1-minute water tread, applicants will be required to swim 100 meters within 3 minutes. Any stroke may be used. Applicants will be allowed to push off the vertical part of the wall under the water line on each end of the pool or use a flip turn. Applicants will not be allowed to do the following: * Touch or hold the horizontal edge of the pool; * Touch the bottom of the pool; * Hold onto any pool lane markers. * Wear a Personal Flotation Devices during the swim test. * Wear or use swim fins. * Wear a nose plug or anything covering the nose completely. Applicants can wear: * Swim googles but they may not cover up or block the nose entirely. * Ear plugs NOTE: Applicant needs to be mentally and physically capable of submerging themselves underwater. Applicant must successfully complete ALL components of the physical readiness test on the assigned day of testing. Since all activities must be completed in one (1) day, applicants should consider some form of advance preparation for this test. Offer additional Learn to Surf Fish program offerings as needed to reach additional audiences such as scouts, summer camps, and church groups. Develop an introductory Learn to Bird program that teaches participants how to use binoculars and spotting scopes. The intern will research, plan, and script the program, consulting with PAIS Science and Resource Management staff to create a visual guide of commonly seen bird species. Conduct accessibility assessments at birding hotspots: The intern will evaluate accessibility features at key locations, contributing updates to the park's accessibility webpages and the Birdability Map , a crowd-sourced tool that documents accessible birding sites for people with disabilities or health concerns. They will participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of Boys Ranch clinical interventions for identified residents in accordance with appropriate therapeutic practices and CFBR policy. Each intern will attend and participate in weekly team meetings for assigned clients. They will facilitate and/or co-facilitate therapeutic and/or psycho-educational groups and have opportunities to provide clinical services and support for the Equine Assisted Psychotherapy programs, Adventure Programs and other experiential learning activities. Interns are immersed into the community of care provided at CFBR and will be able to experience all aspects of care provided to residents in a General Residential Operation. Requirements JOB SPECIFICATIONS Currently enrolled in a Master's degree from an accredited university in Social Work, Child Psychology, Counseling, Human Services Administration or related field is required. Basic competency in Microsoft Office for Windows applications (word processing, database, spreadsheet, e-mail, presentation graphics, etc.) is required. Must be proficient in general office equipment operation. Must possess exceptional time management and detail-orientation skills. Must be at least 21 years of age.
