What we need
Symbotic is seeking a highly motivated Manager of Automation Maintenance Operations to lead and manage daily maintenance activities, ensuring optimal performance of our cutting-edge automated systems. You will oversee a dynamic team responsible for maintaining Symbotic's advanced infrastructure, which includes automated adapters, vertical lifts, and a fleet of autonomous robotic vehicles. This role supports all mechanical, PLC, electrical, and electronic systems. The Manager role combines leadership with a focus on processes that improve equipment, materials, and overall system performance.
What we do
The Manager of Automation Maintenance Operations is part of the Customer Operations organization which is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of Symbotic's robotic material handling system. The Customer Operations organization drives operational excellence by engaging and partnering with our onsite customers to drive best-in-class quality, safety and system performance.
What you'll do
Lead and execute Symbotic's maintenance program by training, delegating, and holding maintenance technicians and leads accountable.
Supervise maintenance staff by assigning tasks, managing schedules, and overseeing day-to-day activities.
Coach maintenance team members and support their professional development and performance growth.
Plan, schedule, and monitor timely completion of maintenance work orders and related tasks.
Actively pursue opportunities to reduce equipment downtime and improve production reliability.
Identify and implement initiatives to reduce waste and operating costs across maintenance operations.
Apply continuous improvement and operational excellence practices, including root cause analysis and corrective action related to equipment failures.
Ensure daily compliance with OSHA, Symbotic, and customer safety procedures and commitments.
Troubleshoot complex issues and guide the team in effective problem solving.
Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to maintenance activities.
Manage vendor and subcontractor relationships as needed to support maintenance goals.
Purchase materials, parts, and supplies to ensure proper inventory levels and equipment availability.
Maintain clean, organized work areas in accordance with plant housekeeping and 5S standards.
Conduct safety training and perform regular safety observations to promote a safe work environment.
Complete assigned tasks in a timely and organized manner.
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
What you'll need
Associate degree or equivalent certification/experience in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar maintenance leadership role.
Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety as a top priority.
Skilled in progressive coaching and counseling techniques to provide continuous performance feedback, improve employee relations, and boost retention.
Excellent communication skills-written, verbal, and visual presentation.
Proficient with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS); Maximo experience preferred.

Capable of working independently and following established maintenance procedures and technical manuals.

Our Environment
Must be able to work at heights of up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches.

Manage and maintain inventories of maintenance supplies and reorder repair parts as necessary
Respond, or direct others to respond, to after-hours emergency repair calls as required.
Maintain safe and sanitary working conditions in compliance with facility and regulatory guidelines individually and as functional leader.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
7 to 10 years of building maintenance management in a manufacturing facility, preferably in food industry or other governmental regulated industry.
Expert knowledge of plant manufacturing equipment and systems, including, but not limited to, ammonia refrigeration, hydraulics, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC.
Working knowledge of federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations and related operational best practices.
Ability to manage complex installation and modification projects involving major capital expenditures in the area of responsibility.

Qualifications:

Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR KNOWLEDGE

Make sure (M1 alerts) are scheduled and in-process meets are held at critical process operations. The candidate should be familiar with the Avionics domain. This position reports directly to the Software Engineering Manager in Aurora, IL.
Responsibilities
Key contributor in helmet-mounted display applications:
* Provide technical expertise in the design of Avionics display systems.
* Develop efficient and robust software architecture that remains consistent with safety and regulatory requirements in accordance with RTCA DO-178C.
* Evaluate competing technical solutions.
* Provide technical expertise in Model-Based Design, ARINC 653 specification, and protocols including MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429 and ARINC 615.
* Perform software design in ARINC 653-compliant RTOS and embedded Linux.
* Proficiency in coding in C and Python, Unit Test and Integration Test.
* Serves as technical lead in software development projects.
* Provides technical assistance in developing proposals and bids and supporting customer queries.

* Bachelor's Degree Required; BSCS, BSCE or BSEE preferred.
* 8 years or more of experience in Software Engineering.
* Proven experience working on ARINC 653-compliant RTOS, Model-Based Design and protocols including MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429 and ARINC 615.
* Proven experience working on embedded systems in a Linux environment.
* Possesses knowledge of practical and theoretical design of deterministic embedded systems.
* Willingness to travel to customer sites.
* Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
* Ability to comply with all Company guidelines, policies, procedures and embrace Company Core Values.
The annualized pay range for this role is $140,573-179,621 USD along with a target incentive compensation plan (ICP) of 5%. The pay range provided is a good faith estimate representative of the experience for the role described above.
