Key Responsibilities
Network Architecture & Design

Implement routing architectures (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and advanced switching technologies (VLANs, STP, VxLAN, QoS).

Evaluate and recommend new technologies aligned with institutional goals.
Network Engineering & Implementation
Deploy and configure enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure across academic buildings, labs, and administrative offices.
Engineer hybrid cloud connectivity (AWS, Azure, GCP) and support cloud-based instructional technologies.
Implement SD-WAN and modern campus network architectures.
Use automation tools (Python, Ansible) for configuration management and network efficiency.
Lead major network upgrades, migrations, and large-scale Wi-Fi deployments for campus environments.
Operations & Administration
Oversee network availability and performance across academic facilities, dorms, research centers, and event venues.
Provide Tier-3 support for complex network issues impacting instructional, administrative, and research operations.
Manage DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, NTP, and IPAM systems.
Maintain accurate documentation, campus network diagrams, and ITIL-based change records.
Security & Compliance
Manage firewall policies, NAC, IDS/IPS, and secure remote access.
Support compliance with FERPA, HIPAA (as applicable), and cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST and CIS benchmarks.
Partner with cybersecurity and IT governance teams to protect sensitive academic and research data.
Lead network security architecture for campus-wide initiatives.
Collaboration & Leadership
Collaborate with academic technology teams, research groups, facilities, and IT leadership.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior network staff.
Act as a subject-matter expert on network architecture and strategy for higher-ed stakeholders.

Network Administrator II (WAN)

DLS Engineering is seeking a Network Administrator II (WAN) professional for a full-time position in support of the Air Force Intranet Control (AFINC) program at Joint Base San Antonio in San Antonio, TX. This is an on-site position.
As part of AFINC, the mission of the 26th Network Operations Squadron (26 NOS) is to provide mission assurance to the warfighter through the operation, management, and defense of the Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN). In the execution of its mission, the 26 NOS maintains network infrastructure, to include routers, switches, proxies, firewalls, servers, workstations, printers, Storage Area Networks (SAN) and test labs, to provide maneuverability and defense of both classified and unclassified networks.
A day in the life:
Analyze and simulate network traffic to aid in problem resolution or to test updated configurations in virtual or physical lab environments.
Monitor system utilization and circuit bandwidth then report anomalies to Government team leads.
Develop, execute, modify or remove scripts to assist in automation of tasks, as possible.
Review and document all workload activities per incident or change request to eliminate re-work or for auditing/investigation purposes.
Escalate complex network issues to Senior Network Administrators.
When I read the below it sounds like me:
5+ years' experience with: installing, configuring, troubleshooting, upgrading, patching, and hardening routers, serial consoles, load balancers, and switches.
Intermediate level understanding/experience with Enterprise network architectures and configurations is highly desired.
IAT-II certification (required)
CCNA certification (required)
Active Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Qualifications
5+ years experience in network administration and support. HS diploma or GED. Must be Security+ and CCNA certified. CCNP certification desired. Experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, upgrading, patching, and hardening routers, serial consoles, load balancers, and switches. Able to assess infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and recommend solutions. Knowledge of relevant server-side tools and technologies. Experience with network monitoring and management using an automated solution. Extensive experience with security as it pertains to network architecture, desktops, laptops, servers, firewalls, routers, and intrusion detection systems (IDS). Solid customer service and communication skills are critical as well as the ability and willingness to communicate effectively and appropriately in an empathetic and understanding manner. Must be a US Citizen and hold a current Top Secret clearance with SCI access (TS/SCI).

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and document business requirements for software applications
Responsible for installation, configuration, diagnostics, maintenance, incident resolution and ongoing support of applications to support departmental and enterprise requirements through the life cycle of the application use.
Plan and execute software application upgrades, updates and patches, in conjunction with SaaS vendor, when applicable.
Provide technical support to end-users and provide training for new users and for end-users on new application features.
Analyze application data and usage to identify areas for system improvements, business process improvements, cross application integration opportunities or other utilization improvement possibilities
Perform project management for small to mid-sized IT software related projects and support software implementation projects through selection, configuration, testing and deployment processes
Ensure application implementation aligns with business goals and objectives
Develop detailed functional specifications to guide the selection and configuration of software applications.
Create ad-hoc reports and management dashboards customized to specific needs of departments

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business Administration or related field; three (3) or more years of experience in the implementation, administration, analysis and support of complex commercial software solutions; two (2) or more years of experience as a Project Manager and/or Business Analyst; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Skills:
Direct experience with implementation, configuration and maintenance of software solutions such as Workday(ERP), Cityworks(permitting), Cartegraph(ASM)
Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, verification, and implementation development
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Demonstrated project management skills, especially related to technical implementations.

Knowledge of operational processes and systems requirements preferably for Finance/Accounting, Human Resources, Municipal Planning & Development, Fire Safety, Building Safety, Health Services, Code Enforcement or Public Works departments
Exceptional analytical skills
Experience using business reporting solutions such as Crystal Reports, SSRS/SQL ,Cognos, Power BI, QuickBase
Ability to work with detailed information for sustained periods of time, with minimal supervision.
