Seeking a motivated, hands-on SystemsEngineer to support a new Project, focused on advancing cancer diagnostics through state-of-the-art testing automation. This role plays a critical part in defining product requirements, system architectures, and risk management strategies for in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) solutions used globally across more than 250 cancer tests and associated instruments.
This is an onsite position ideal for an engineer with strong electro-mechanical systems experience and a background in regulated medical device development.
Key Responsibilities
Apply SystemsEngineering principles across the product lifecycle, including requirements definition, system architecture, risk analysis, and verification & validation

Job Description
- Learn our UNIX hardware and software environments, inventory current state of servers and assess administrative risks, develop written procedural documentation, administer the servers and analyze for improvements.
- Create a stable, responsive and reliable platform for the business critical software applications currently running on the UNIX systems.
- Install and configure new Unix systems in replacement of aging hardware.
- Migrate applications and databases from old hardware environment to new environment.
- Trouble shooting, research, and analysis of hardware and application deficiencies and issues.
- Identified activities include but are not limited to:
• Backup / Restore
• Identification of hardware issues
• Establish process for identification and remediation of hardware issues
• Establish redundant systems for failover and document, test and implement failover procedures
• Identify system risks over time and establish processes for notification and warnings when various systems thresholds are approaching
• Capacity planning
• Maintenance of patch levels
• Miscellaneous tasks as required
Qualifications
Unix Server Administration Experience:
• Sun Solaris administration including OS installation, configuration, disk drive and file system configuration, replication and printer configuration in a complex networked environment
• Shell scripting
• Managing patch levels
• Unix hardware administration including diagnosing and repair of various hardware components including disk drives, CPU's and power supplies.
• Business continuity and hot site planning
• Backup and recovery systems configuration and maintenance
Application Software Experience:
• Installation and configuration of various software applications in a Sun Solaris Unix environment
• Informix 7.x administration including backup, recovery, performance monitoring and tuning
Preferred Experience:
• Preference may be given to candidates that hold a Solaris System Administrator certification
• Prior experience with Sun Enterprise 450 Unix servers running Solaris 7

Impact:
Architect and operationalize Spark at scale as a core component of Cisco Data Fabric, enabling customers to access and analyze exponentially more data across diverse organizational sources. Build resilient, always-on infrastructure with automatic retry logic, fault tolerance, and seamless integration across myriad data sources and formats including Parquet, Iceberg, and modern table formats. Design the operational backbone-monitoring, observability, error handling, and horizontal scalability-that enables hundreds of engineers to build features confidently on solid foundations. Establish architectural patterns and support mechanisms that ensure high availability while maintaining performance at petabyte scale. Success is measured by customer adoption of data fabric capabilities and operational reliability metrics-uptime, ingestion performance, and incident reduction-that directly impact customer value.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's in Computer Science (or equivalent) with 15+ years of related experience; or Master's with 12+ years; or PhD with 8+ years or equivalent experience
* Designed and deployed production Spark deployments at scale in cloud environments
* Experience with modern data formats including Parquet, Iceberg, and related table/columnar formats
* Production experience with AWS cloud platform
* Led technical decisions and architectural direction across engineering organizations of 50+ engineers
Preferred Qualifications:
* Production experience with Azure and/or GCP cloud platforms
* Experience integrating with diverse data platforms such as Snowflake, Pinot, Databricks, Trino, or similar systems
* Extensive Kubernetes experience in production environments
* Proven track record mentoring and growing engineers, with strong collaboration skills across sponsors, design, product management, and engineering teams

The starting salary range posted for this position is $267,600.00 to $339,400.00 and reflects the projected salary range for new hires in this position in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including incentive compensation*, equity, or benefits.
Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location, market conditions, job-related skillset, experience, qualifications, education, certifications, and/or training. The full salary range for certain locations is listed below. U.S. employees are offered benefits, subject to Cisco's plan eligibility rules, which include medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability coverage, and basic life insurance. U.S. employees are eligible for paid time away as described below, subject to Cisco's policies:
* 10 paid holidays per full calendar year, plus 1 floating holiday for non-exempt employees
* 1 paid day off for employee's birthday, paid year-end holiday shutdown, and 4 paid days off for personal wellness determined by Cisco
* Non-exempt employees receive 16 days of paid vacation time per full calendar year, accrued at rate of 4.92 hours per pay period for full-time employees
* Exempt employees participate in Cisco's flexible vacation time off program, which has no defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use (subject to availability and some business limitations)
* 80 hours of sick time off provided on hire date and each January 1st thereafter, and up to 80 hours of unused sick time carried forward from one calendar year to the next
* Additional paid time away may be requested to deal with critical or emergency issues for family members
* Optional 10 paid days per full calendar year to volunteer
For non-sales roles, employees are also eligible to earn annual bonuses subject to Cisco's policies.
Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components, subject to the applicable Cisco plan. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:
* .75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;
* 1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;
* 1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and
* Once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.
For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay 0% up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.

$273,200.00 - $442,600.00
Non-Metro New York state & Washington state:
$267,600.00 - $390,300.00
