Like us, you're a high performer who's an expert at your craft, constantly challenging the status quo. You value inclusivity and want to join a culture that empowers you to show up as your authentic self. You know that success hinges on commitment, that our differences make us stronger, and that the finish line is always sweeter when the whole team crosses together. Role Overview We're seeking a highly skilled, customer-oriented Principal Infrastructure Engineer to design, evangelize, and lead the evolution of our infrastructure and platform foundation. This person will partner with customers, product, and engineering teams to translate real needs into scalable, maintainable infrastructure systems. You'll work at the intersection of infrastructure, devops, platform, and user needs, ensuring the platform is resilient, performant, and flexible enough to meet diverse customers' requirements. You will be expected to operate with significant autonomy: drive architecture and design choices, lead infrastructure initiatives, and represent our platform to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Engage directly with customers to understand use-cases, pain points, and requirements; shape the infrastructure roadmap accordingly. Translate customer/feature requirements into robust infrastructure and platform designs. Architect, build, and maintain the underlying platform foundations: our Kubernetes platform, GitOps pipelines (Argo CD or equivalent), infrastructure-as-code models (Terraform, etc.), networking, security, and operational tooling. Define and enforce infrastructure patterns, best practices, guardrails, and standards across teams. Operate or partner in building shared platform services (e.g. auth, ingress, networking, service mesh, CI/CD gating, observability, logging, secrets, etc.). Lead or contribute hands-on to core infra subsystems, including provisioning, deployment pipelines, cluster lifecycle, multi-tenant isolation, infrastructure automation, and scalability tooling. Build or guide “platform layers” that allow application teams to operate autonomously while still within safe, well-architected constraints (self-service abstractions). Lead incident management or postmortems when infrastructure failures or customer-impacting events occur. Mentor and coach infrastructure engineers, platform engineers, or DevOps engineers across teams. Be the architectural champion for infrastructure initiatives: lead design reviews, evaluate new tools and technologies, and drive adoption or deprecation decisions. Coordinate with security, compliance, SRE, operations, and product teams to align policies, monitoring, SLAs, capacity planning, and reliability goals. Represent infrastructure/Platform in customer meetings, demos, architecture reviews, and roadmap planning. Required Qualifications & Skills ~10+ years of experience in systems, infrastructure, or platform engineering (or equivalent), with a track record of tackling large-scale, production systems. Strong understanding of networking, cluster networking, ingress, load balancing, proxies, service mesh, etc. Knowledge of security (identity, access control, secrets management, network segmentation) as part of infrastructure. Experience building or maintaining platform abstractions / self-service layers / APIs for infra consumption. Proficiency with observability tooling (metrics, tracing, logging), incident management, alerting. Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and hybrid or multi-cloud deployments. Strong automation ethos: scripting, tooling, CI/CD, operations automation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: ability to run customer meetings, present architectural rationale, negotiate tradeoffs. Strong ability to make decisions under ambiguity, balance short-term and long-term tradeoffs, and lead cross-team alignment. Ability to mentor and grow infrastructure/platform engineers, set standards, and uplift maturity. Behavioral Attributes & Soft Skills Customer empathy and ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong sense of ownership and initiative. Pragmatic and results-driven: you know when to build vs reuse vs simplify. Collaborative: able to work across product, security, SRE, DevOps, support teams. Mentorship mindset: raising the bar for infrastructure engineering across the organization. Resilience in the face of failure, strong troubleshooting instincts, calm under pressure. Success Metrics / How You'll Be Evaluated Platform reliability, uptime, performance, and scalability improvements. Customer (internal/external) satisfaction with infrastructure / onboarding / platform experience. Reduction in toil, manual work, and friction for engineering teams. Adoption of infra standards, patterns, and self-service abstractions across teams. Efficiency and velocity gains enabled by platform improvements (e.g. faster deployments). Architectural coherence, fewer infrastructure “quirks” or ad-hoc setups. Quality of mentorship, influence, and team growth of infrastructure/platform engineers.
