The MEP SystemsEngineer will be responsible for the detailed design and implementation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and PV systems tailored for modular construction building systems. This role requires a deep understanding of MEP systems combined with practical experience in modular construction. You will collaborate closely with leadership, crossfunctional design and engineering teams to integrate all technical and user experience requirements into our designs to ensure optimal functionality, sustainability, and compliance with all regulations.
What You'll Do
Design and develop integrated MEP systems for our new and existing designs including solar energy systems, including PV and ESS, optimized for prefabricated modular construction
Ensure that solar and energy storage designs align with overall MEP system functionality and building energy requirements
Lead the creation of comprehensive design documents, schematics, component material selections and system layouts, preferably using CAD and BIM software
Provide technical leadership during the installation and commissioning phases to ensure systems meet design specifications and performance standards
Conduct system testing and validation to ensure functionality, efficiency, and safety of both MEP and PV installations
Collaborate closely with installation teams to facilitate seamless and efficient factory and onsite implementation of design
Engage in research and application of the latest technologies and practices in renewable energy and modular construction
Work with program managers and other engineering disciplines to ensure holistic integration of all systems within Samara modular units
What We're Looking For
Modular construction experience in factory builds, multi-mod, stackable and/or other hands on related experience.
Licensed Electrician or Mechanical Contractor -and/or- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy SystemsEngineering, or a related field
Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
Minimum of 7 years of experience in one of the following: Mechanical, Electrical, Solar and/or Plumbing System design
Comprehensive knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and sustainability practices relevant to MEP and renewable energy systems
Proficiency in design software such as Onshape, Revit, and/or other BIM methodologies preferred
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt designs to changing technological and regulatory landscapes
Strong communication and leadership skills, capable of driving project decisions and managing complex stakeholder relationships
Ability to travel to our factory in Mexico up to 25-40%.

The ideal candidate should possess leadership skills to lead/mentor intermediate/junior engineers.
Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance into the commissioning, qualification and start-up of various equipment and facilities used in life science manufacturing, such as bioreactors, tanks, CIP, Buffers, Media, Chrom, TFF, washers & autoclaves, etc.
Lead the development of key qualification deliverables during the project lifecycle to ensure project is well defined, and the action plan to test the system is applicable and relevant.
Lead qualification processes throughout the project lifecycle such as VPP, Risk Assessments, RTM, DQ, FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ and PQ as appropriate to ensure timely completion and to ensure all quality and engineering specifications are met.
Prepare protocols, execute protocols, summarize data, resolve deviations, prepare final reports.
Experience with C&Q of process equipment, utilities, facilities is an asset. Thermal Validation experience is an asset.
Coordinate meetings with cross-functional departments, to drive project progress, facilitate decisions, provide updates.
Engage other departments, as required, for design reviews and decisions.
Travel may be occasionally required for meetings with clients, equipment fabrication vendors or Factory Acceptance Testing (FATs).
Work may require occasional support over shutdowns or extended hours, specifically during installation and commissioning / validation phases.
Client-management (maintain key Client relationships in support of business development and pursuit of new work), project scheduling/budgeting, coordination of client and MMR resources for effective project delivery, supporting business development (providing technical support to the sales as required for proposals/opportunities), presenting at industry conferences/publishing papers etc.
Visit construction and installation sites following all site safety requirements.
Other duties as assigned by client, and/or MMR, based on workload and project requirements.
Qualifications
8-12+ years for years of experience in commissioning, qualification or validation of various systems within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
Excellent written and spoken English is required including the preparation of technical documents in English
Knowledge of requirements for a cGMP operations, including SOPs, Change Controls, Validation.
Experience with developing and executing validation projects. Risk-Based Commissioning & Qualification approaches, such as ASTM E-2500 or ISPE ICQ, is considered an asset, but not required.
Experience with commissioning and qualification of biotech process equipment (upstream or downstream or both), such as some, but not all, of the following: fermentation, bioreactors, downstream purification processes (chromatography, TFF, UF) is required
Experience with commissioning & qualification of process control systems (i.e. PCS, SCADA, Historians) and building automation systems (i.e. Siemens Insight / Desigo, JCI Metasys) are considered an asset, but not required.
Experience with Qualification or Validation of clean utilities, ISO clean rooms, and Thermal Validation is considered an asset.
Experience with preparation and execution of URS's, DQ's, RTMs, Risk Assessments, CPPs, VPPs, FATs, SATs, IOQs, NCRs, Final Reports.

Conduct field inspection throughout project implementation to verify compliance with scope and best practices, and to proactively identify implementation risks and deviations from approved design.
Coordinate with project teams and represent client on the project team to ensure stakeholder requirements are appropriately addressed and all issues are effectively resolved within the project design and implementation schedule.
Collaborate with clients, consultants, and contractors to ensure project requirements are met.

Provide regular progress updates and reports.

Perform controls program "clip-in" to transition new control systems onto in-operations servers.

Qualifications required:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related facilities engineering field with relevant controls experience. (Associates degree with additional relevant experience may be considered.)
7+ years of experience in facilities HVAC and control systems
Experience with HVAC building automation systems, including development and/or review of operating sequences for equipment and systems.
Strong knowledge of control theory, HVAC systems, and building automation protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus).
Experience with major BMS platforms (e.g., Tridium, Johnson Controls, Siemens).
Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple simultaneous projects
Demonstrated experience in HVAC engineering fundamentals, including trend analysis

As a Staff Thermal SystemsEngineer, you'll improve existing products, innovate new features and systems, demonstrate reliability of thermal components and subsystems, and support deployment of products in the field.
This role is required to be onsite in our San Francisco HQ 4-5 days per week.
The estimated salary for this role is $175,000 to $200,000 USD per year + equity. An individual's compensation will vary on a number of factors including but not limited to geography, skills, education, experience and unique qualifications where applicable.
Key Responsibilities
Drive the design and optimization of Gradient products across current and future product generations, ensuring our products have world-class performance, reliability, and user experience
Specify, develop, and qualify thermal components for HVAC systems
Support analysis of anomalous product behavior in the field, and recommend improvements and fixes
Develop thermal control algorithms to support improved user comfort and system efficiency

Required Qualifications
