TAMKO Building Products company history timeline

1944

In 1944, at the age of 69, E.L. Craig began a roofing business in an old streetcar barn in Joplin, Missouri.

1960

Ethelmae’s husband, J.P. Humphreys, became TAMKO’s president in 1960 and he continued in that post for the next 33 years.

1972

The Craigs’ daughter, Ethelmae, directed TAMKO's operations during the '50s, and was named TAMKO Chairman of the Board in 1972.

1994

Since 1994, TAMKO's expansion has continued at a dramatic pace, expanding TAMKO's production capabilities for additional products.

2006

On June 1, 2006, TAMKO Roofing Products changed its name to TAMKO Building Products to more accurately reflect that TAMKO manufactures more than just shingles.

2011

The Tuscaloosa plant reopened almost a month ahead of schedule on May 25, 2011 and is in operation today (2).

The EPA has continuously found TAMKO products to be in non-compliance with the Clean Water Act for the last 12 quarters; that means since June of 2011 TAMKO has not been able to resolve an issue with introducing waste into their watershed or public water systems.

2019

In 2019, TAMKO celebrates 75 years in business, a historic anniversary made possible through three generations of family leadership, thousands of hardworking employees, and strong relationships with our communities, our customers and suppliers.
