    Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Personal Trainer provides leadership and education to members by coaching members on proper exercise, nutrition and healthy lifestyle adaptation resulting in healthier individuals through a quality program for all involved. The personal trainer provides a fee-based service with all fees determined and paid to the YMCA. The Personal Trainer will consistently exhibit behaviors and attitudes that are consistent with the YMCA mission and policies of the Association. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Evaluates the participant's fitness level through a fitness evaluation or assessment. * Assists the participant in creating goals that are achievable. * Creates a program and makes recommendations that are within the personal trainer's expertise. * Monitors the progress of the member throughout the training program continuously modifying the program to achieve the stated goals. * Provides continuous education regarding "risk factor" modification and pre-established goal accomplishments to participants. * Demonstrates confidentiality between the personal trainer and member. * Ensures that the highest quality of service is provided. * Continuous personal education to maintain industry standards and current certification(s). * Maintains and cleans equipment according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor . * Adheres to the Association operating policies and procedures by operating the programs within the guidelines set forth. * Follows YMCA policies and procedures regarding the safety, health and welfare of members, program participants, guests and staff; responds to emergency situations in accordance to facility policies and certification requirements. * Completes all job related meetings and trainings as required. * Performs any other duties as assigned by the Wellness Director. PAY SCALE: This scale is based on Job Title and number of hours trained per pay period. Due to pay calculation, this position is ineligible for a merit increase. Pay rates will be evaluated to market based on business needs. 0-10 Hours 11-20 Hours 21+ Hours Personal Trainer I $20.00 $26.00 $33.00 Personal Trainer II $26.00 $32.00 $38.00 Education/Experience Required: * Must be at least 18 years of age or older. * Must have a Personal Trainer certification from one of the accredited national personal training organizations. * Knowledge and application of wellness, primarily physical fitness and an understanding of how to set basic fitness goals. * Ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience of personal training techniques and practices. * Experience with active listening techniques and interpersonal skills. * Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. * Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with groups and/or individuals from different backgrounds. * Represent the YMCA in a positive manner. * Personal Trainer I requires less than 600 hours of previous training experience. * Personal Trainer II requires more than 600 hours of previous training experience, or a bachelors/masters degree in Exercise Science or a health-related field. Certifications/Trainings Required: * Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in community CPR/AED and First Aid. * Maintain position-specific required certifications as stated in the training matrix. The Group Exercise Instructor will also serve as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness. Additional Responsibilities: Make sure that class begins and ends promptly. If necessary, make adjustments to the flow of the class to ensure adherence to the schedule. Conduct guest tours and complete sales when needed through the Turn-Over process. Execute an effective prospecting strategy by performing “Starter Sessions” and other prospecting activities. Independently schedule and manage client appointments to ensure optimal time management and service delivery. Coordinate directly with clients to arrange sessions, meetings, or service visits according to their availability and needs. Maintain up-to-date scheduling records and make adjustments to accommodate changes or cancellations. Handled self-directed appointment setting, including follow-ups and rescheduling. This Group Fitness coach should have knowledge about Strength and Conditioning and have the ability to step in on day 1 and work with any client we throw at them. Whether it is Tim Tebow, a professional sports bound college athlete, a 40 year old mother trying to get fit, or a 7 year old athlete training for the first time...this coach should live for stepping on the turf & helping these athletes accomplish their goals! Required Qualifications & Experience: MUST: CSCS, SCCC, NASM, ISSA, or CPT certification required Athletic background 2+ years of strength & conditioning-related coaching in group, team, or personal training setting. Believes they can be the best coach on staff Extensive knowledge of strength & conditioning Experience with group fitness Ability to program for 1 on 1 clients Positive and energetic personality with a can do attitude Has a valid AED/CPR/First Aid certification Preferred Qualifications & Experience: Degree from an accredited university (Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, or related field) Familiar with the local community; existing relationships with schools, coaches, and sports teams Key Skills Required For Position: CHARACTER. This coach must have world class character & align with our core values. Here at D1 Training we work hard & play hard. You must show up every single day ready to have fun with high energy. If you dont bring the juice, or are up & down day to day, you arent a good fit for this high-performance team. COACH. This coach should be able to step in on day 1 & work with anyone. We have classes for 7-11 year olds, 12-14 year olds, 15-18 year olds, & adults, plus 1 on 1 athletes. You cant have an ego around who you work with & must LOVE coaching everyone. TEAM PLAYER. At D1 Training we do not let coaches pick who they work with. Every coach must be a team player & be ready to train members of all ages & skill levels. Teach A D1 Coach must be dedicated to training and improving the lives of D1s members Scholastic (ages 7-18), Adults, and Teams, by: Exhibiting passion, expertise, high energy, a positive and motivating attitude, strong character, and over-the-top customer service Starting and finishing workouts on time Assessing and aligning each member with the proper program Building and maintaining relationships with each D1 member Coaching group workouts, personal training, and teams Delivering accurate, industry-leading educational advice on strength, speed, and nutrition Teaching proper form and technique and keeping all our athletes safe Responsibilities Foster a positive, motivating environment for all athletes. Reduce an athlete's risk of injury by focusing on proper technique and movement patterns.
