Area of Responsibilities
* Makes contact with patients, families, and significant others to obtain and verify the list of medications taken at home by using available resources (calling pharmacies, calling provider offices, using Internet sources, calling family, or friends at home, etc.) in an accurate and timely manner.
* Responsible for accurate and timely preparation of sterile and hazardous IV admixtures, hyper-alimentation solutions, and IV batch preparations. Follows all procedures related to the IV room (cleaning, temperature monitoring, pressure monitoring, and proper downing of supplies for work done in clean room).
* Responsible for automated dispensing cabinet function; re-stocking, loading, inventory expiration checking, and trouble-shooting. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of medications stocked in patient care areas.
* Responsible for monitoring and investigating missing medications and medications returned that should have been administered. Reconciliation of medication charges and credits.
* Responsible for screening and triaging incoming phone calls in a timely manner. Constant attention to detail is mandatory.
* Assist pharmacists with employee, indigent, and hospice outpatient prescriptions.
* Assist pharmacists with medication order filling.
* Assists in maintenance and development of departmental policies and procedures.
* Assists in monitoring all processes for performance improvement and error reduction.
* Assists in preparing for and maintaining The Joint Commission compliance.
* Assists the pharmacist in review and preparation of clinical monitoring reports.
* Attendance at Pharmacy Department staff meetings.
* Constant contact and interaction with nurses and other staff members arriving in pharmacy for retrieval of medication, information, services, etc.
* Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of pharmacy stock.
* Responsible for the accurate and timely documentation of home medication receipt and medication retrieval to patient upon discharge.
* Responsible for the accurate and timely repackaging of bulk medications into unit-dose packaging.
* Restocks medication dispensing areas and fluid supplies from bulk storage.
Compliance Statement

Functions
Area of Responsibilities
Performs effectively and efficiently as a staff pharmacy technician when needed. Maintains all required competencies (ie: preparation of sterile and hazardous IV admixtures, automated dispensing cabinet functions, obtaining and verifying the list of patient's medications taken at home, order filling, charge & credit reconciliation, etc.)
Assists Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention Coordinator in monitoring, tracking, identification, and resolution of all controlled substance movement in the facilities, including Anesthesia narcotic reconciliation.
Serves as Educator for new pharmacy technicians to ensure thorough and consistent training and on-boarding. Is actively involved in panel interviews of potential candidates and ensures all training materials used for on-boarding new employees are current and appropriate.
Actively involved in and leads pharmacy automation and distribution systems acquisition, implementation, and training. Actively leads automation scanning compliance for pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.
Serves as the Pharmacy leader and Educator for ensuring USP 797, USP 795, and USP 800 compliance.
Constantly monitors and works with the pharmacists and other pharmacy technicians to identify areas for process improvement and workforce efficiencies. Makes recommendations to the Pharmacy Manager, Pharmaceutical Care Coordinator, and or Director for changes.
Assists the Pharmacy Department Managers in technician scheduling. Assists in managing the schedule, call-outs, etc.
Works closely with the Inventory Specialists for inventory optimization, facilitates inventory rotation and automation optimization, and assists with floor stock monitoring and compliance.
Works closely with the Inventory Specialists and Pharmacy Department Coordinator to serve as an alternate in their absence.
Assists the pharmacist in review and preparation of clinical monitoring reports.
Assists in monitoring all processes for performance improvement and error reduction.
Assists in maintenance and development of departmental policies and procedures.
Assists in preparing for and maintaining JCAHO compliance.
Actively participates in Tanner Health System leadership training opportunities.
Attendance at Pharmacy Department staff meetings.
Compliance Statement

Supervision
Regularly uses the assistance and supervises level I, II, III, and IV technicians to monitor performance, ensure accurate completion of assigned tasks, and provide correction when necessary. Definitions
This position will assist in the management of the daily pharmacy technician requirements of the Pharmacy Department. They will assist with and provide leadership and training with pharmacy automation and controlled substance inventory issues including, but not limited to: ordering, receiving, transferring, automated dispensing cabinet management, sterile compounding, and controlled substances management. This employee will assist pharmacists and the pharmacy department team with providing medication services and pharmaceutical care to patients and other departments through-out the health system.
