Pros of working at Target

Decent pay, used to be a fun environment.

Cons of working at Target

Awful CEO and upper management changed the entire culture from what set target apart and chased the poor Walmart model. 2019 structure change ruined the company.

Target benefits

The people

What do you like best about Target's CEO and the leadership team?

Not much, chased Walmart and political statements rather than taking care of the business.

How would you improve Target's culture?

Bring back the store culture from 2018-early 2019. POG team, flow team, backroom team, senior team leads, actual focus on guest service and not just get the trucks unloaded.

How did you prepare for the Target interview?

Being myself and leaning on my numerous years of retail experience.

How does your compensation at Target compare to the industry average?

Not really in my experience. I had 15+ years of retail management and I was paid like any new hire to the position.

What's the diversity at Target like?

Was way too big of a focus and did not reflect the actual customer base. Targets main customer base is working and stay at home mothers.

What brings you the most joy at Target?

The staff.

Pros of working at Target

The pay

Cons of working at Target

Over a 3 year period I was harassed. And demeaned, by two separate women, the latter of which I, i heard say that she doesn't want to hire 'white people". There was a witness, one of her peers who she was speaking to and me, I was a witness. I reported it to both store HR, which was a joke, and corporate HR. Initially, store HR advised me not to make a complaint.

Target benefits

Lotsa stuff to buy!

What do you like best about Target's CEO and the leadership team?

Nothing.

How would you improve Target's culture?

There are consistently far more tasks than employees can handle.

How did you prepare for the Target interview?

Prepping with my friend who works at Linkedin.

How does your compensation at Target compare to the industry average?

When I was let go, unemployment insurance informed me that I i could not collect benefits because I broke a company rule, unless, I had something that I would like to submit to them to prove my claims of toxic work environment, sexual harassment and racial comments made to me. I faxed fifty pages of notes of how I had been harassed by two different ETL's over a period of three plus years, and after receiving them, they immediately granted me my benefits for unemployment.

What's the diversity at Target like?

I love dei. I have no problem with it, but my boss was a DEI hire and she was incompetent, vindictive, childish and, quite frankly, I thought she may hit me at any time.

What brings you the most joy at Target?

The guests and the merchandise.

Pros of working at Target

Flexible schedule, discount, locations nearby

Cons of working at Target

Monotonous work, understaffed, they promote people into team lead positions that have no experience being a leader and do not provide training. I gets frustrating for experienced leaders and team members; which is why there are so many opportunities for promotion- the good people keep leaving

What do you like best about Target's CEO and the leadership team?

Pros of working at Target

My thoughts on the Pros were firing the holiday seasons we received a lot of overtime. It was very fast paced and we were able to get a lot accomplished

Cons of working at Target

In my experience of the cons at Target were within the third week of the new year our hours a would drop between 8 to 12 hours a week.

Target benefits

If we scored our retail sale for that month everyone would get lunch or a gift from management

What do you like best about Target's CEO and the leadership team?

The manager was very nice but sometimes too nice.

How would you improve Target's culture?

If the truck was late I think the management should had helped push some products so we wouldn’t be double packed in shipping because tha when things would get lost. Organization could be so much better

How did you prepare for the Target interview?

How I prepared myself for my interview at Target was to as many questions about the department they wanted to start me in. I wasn’t to know inside and out.

How does your compensation at Target compare to the industry average?

In my experience working at Target compared to other companies like them is very fair. I believe they they actually start you out making more than other big retailers in our area

What's the diversity at Target like?

The recommendation of diverse demographic at target is amazing. You have all types of people from every walk of life that works at that company. They do not look at someone because how they look or dressed and won’t hire them because of it. Some of the best workers are “Not Normal”

What brings you the most joy at Target?

Personally, the most enjoyable aspect of my job at Target was to help the guest. I love to see people smile, and I would do anything to help our guest to make their experience a little better that day.

Cons of working at Target

Management, over worked and under paid, unrealistic expectations, HR is a joke, targeting employees who actually work and not doing anything for the people who actually work

Target benefits

What do you like best about Target's CEO and the leadership team?

Leadership is horrible

How would you improve Target's culture?

Actually, give a crap about your employees

How did you prepare for the Target interview?

Didn’t have an interview for warehouse

What's the diversity at Target like?

No

What brings you the most joy at Target?

Nothing everyone is miserable there management makes it miserable because they’re miserable as well. All they care about is numbers they don’t care about safety like they say if you do the safety and you don’t hate your numbers then you get in trouble if you hit your numbers, but don’t do safety you get in trouble. You can never win. If you do both there’s no way you hit production.

Pros of working at Target

The team members you interact with are the pros

Cons of working at Target

Management wants you to dedicate your entire life to a company who wouldn’t care if you died working on the sales floor. The pay is horrible. Target is a multibillion dollar company and they will not give their employees no more than $.30 for an evaluation. Target goes by seniority and not knowledge. Target also wants you to have a degree to be considered a team leader.

Target benefits

My favorite perk/benefit are the people I work with.

What do you like best about Target's CEO and the leadership team?

I have never met the man and leadership does not see the customers as customers anymore. They only see them as a $.

How would you improve Target's culture?

Treat all your employees the same no matter their race, how long they’ve been at the company, and if they have a degree or not. We’re all here to do 1 thing and that’s provide customer service. If you want your freight to be worked hire people to work overnight to work the freight and stop taking positions from the company and putting all the workload of 4 people on 1 person in a department.

How did you prepare for the Target interview?

Stand on your word. Every person you interview will s not applying just to collect a paycheck. 10% of them are trying to make a career out of working for Target.

Pros of working at Target

The job I Loved was order pick up. I was a picker i loved it because i was always helping someone. I knew their name though that never new mine it made me feel good to take the burden off of remembering what to get at the store. I was the first line to make sure your list was completed to the best of my ability.

Cons of working at Target

the fact that i and several others were underprepared and how much you had to be a yes-man, or you weren't good enough. I started oof really strong in that store but once one person started havening an issue with me it went downhill from there.

Target benefits

Pros of working at Target

Almost no pros, if you’re lucky you have cool coworkers.

Cons of working at Target

Team leads play favoritism, one person can get away with everything while an employee is written up because a TL felt like there was a “tone” over the walkie. They time you on breaks and if you go to the rr after the break. I had a workplace injury and I was treated poorly for seeking help. No one helped me with health benefits when my time came. We were always understaffed and if you work hard they make you work harder now that they know they can rely on you. They manipulate and take advantage of employees.

Target benefits

Hardly a benefit but it’s the ONLY one: 10% discount BUT you have to pay in cash or have the Target “red card” to utilize it. It’s nothing.

Pros of working at Target

At my particular location, the team is really strong- almost like a family, so it's a great working environment because we all help each other. But it's not like that in all departments. Also, while the change over is fairly high/fast, there are quite a few people who have been there (or with the company) for many years,

Cons of working at Target

If you're a really strong worker (like I am) you end up doing a lot more work and they are constantly short staffed (both because people quit but more often, they often call out.)

Target benefits

there's not many perks/benefits tbh, the discount is only 10% and you need a Target red card or cash (not regular debit/credit) to use it, so really the only perk is seeing all the new stuff that comes out at Target first (but you have to wait 15 minutes until after it's been on the floor to buy any special, limited time only collections.)
