Are you male or female? And have you noticed any differences in how you're treated?

I am female. I absolutely do see a difference, People that try to get by with invalid coupons always pick women. Especially because I look very young. I also see a difference in how people act in guest services. Men are much more aggressive and feel I need to be challenged because I am perceived as weak, and women try to get more discounts because they try to relate to me. I also see a difference in how team members treat me, We have a very cliquey male group at my store though.

Here is something I wanted to know for awhile. I often go to target right next to my job just to get out of the office for a bit. Every time I go in every target employee asks if I need help finding something. While I appreciate it, most of the time I'm just walking around not really looking for anything. Is this something that target requires of their employees, asking all customers they see if they need help? Or are the target employees by my place of work just tired of seeing me a few times a week lol.

If you are aimlessly meandering, it's a sign to Target that you could be stealing. To be honest 9/10ths of the time if team members are asking if you need something they find your actions suspicious. It's a theft prevention and it shows good hospitality. So you will probably get asked a lot. Sorry!

Do you guys get an incentive for having customers sign up for a Target credit card? I get asked pretty much every time I'm checking out.

It depends on the store. Some stores give out wonderful rewards to their team members for red cards. It's mostly because we get in so much trouble if we are either caught not offering one or haven't gotten any despite asking. I used to get about two a day but to be honest I feel bad asking most of the time. My store manager said the entire guest/team member interaction should be based around the redcard but I'm like most people. Let's get you going fast and friendly without pressure. The benefits are actually pretty nice but I don't care for the high pressure.

How come every time I enter a target there is an old lady on the floor from falling, like a life alert commercial? Am I cursed, or is target just super slippery.

Honestly, in our store we see slips all the time because we have a soda machine and a starbucks kids and adults alike all drop their drinks and either they are too lazy or stupid to report it or they do and a team member doesn't clean it and put out proper signage. We are really careful about wet floors and clean everything up as fast as possible but people are just in too much of a hurry or are on their phones and don't see the signs and slip anyway. Look up and pay attention, ESPECIALLY if you have a kid. I've seen moms be pulled down by their kids because they dragged them across a wet floor.

What was the Target interview like? I went to a Macy's interview so far, but was wondering if the interview at Target was similar. Any tips to acing it? I'm running low on money to pay my bills.

okay well the interview was just like any other job interview but theirs one trick question about pricing, and that is you will lower the price if its reasonable instead of fighting for a dollar price. that way the customer thinks they won and will come back and spend $100+ on their next shopping trip

How does Target prevent employees from buying items with their employee discount, then re-selling them? Or selling them to their friends/family? Or do they not care because the discount is so low? And what is the discount?

discount is 10% and they try to but i honestly dont think they really check becuase its still promoting at shopping at target.

I heard that you guys were already preparing for the Black Friday, are you preparing for the eventually of a riot??

no, i mean worst case we call the police and let them handle it, we don't get payed enough for a situation like that
November 27, 2014 on Reddit

Do you hate customers who shop on Thanksgiving and Black Friday in general?

not really, but 1000+ can get a little bit of an handful
November 27, 2014 on Reddit

Do you get the chance to pre-shop the store for some of their deals?

this was the first question I asked my boss when I got hired lol but nope, sadly we actually don't make it in time for doorbusters and the limited deals, they tell us to shop online before hand or have someone else to do it for us.

How does being a cart attendant make you any more knowledgeable about the ongoing indentity theft compared to someone who watches the news? After all, that's where 100% of any information you have comes from.

To be quite honest, it doesn't. Yes, I work at the place, and you would think that I would have more information from my managers, but frankly I don't. The most recent information I have is about a TV Advert scam that has been going around, and that was provided to me by one of my managers (he received an email about the situation and printed it out for the staff). From what I know, that hasn't been featured in the news.

You're a cart attendant, do you feel overwhelmed at times? I ask because I was a Target cart attendant, and I swear to god it felt like I was doing two to three people's worth of work all the time.

If you read a few of my past posts, at times I do feel a bit overwhelmed. Working alone on Friday's and Saturday's during the holiday were a nightmare, especially since I don't know how to properly use the cart pusher. The other cart attendants complained to my supervisor saying that I wasn't doing my job, and I had a talking to. Thankfully, my supervisor understood why I was feeling stressed and overwhelmed, and she finally set up the schedule to have two people working at the same time during holiday weekends. Now that the holiday hype has died, everything is much more easy. I'm way ahead of bringing carts inside before we close, I end up cleaning the bathroom every two hours instead of on the hour, etc.
January 16, 2014 on Reddit

Hey! another employee! though i'm a cashier. Did your store drop hours after Christmas? i know our cart attendants only work like 7p-11p which means if its a busy day cashiers get asked to bring in carts because the attendant isn't scheduled till stupid times in the night.

Everybody had their hours cut after the holidays ended. Since there are four of us Cart Attendants (soon to be just three since I'm being cross trained), we do have one in the morning / early afternoon, and one in the evening. Sometimes they do pull cashiers to do that too, and I think it's absolute ***. They pulled that crap on me one night when I was scheduled to cashier, and I had to buy some rain boots and a rain jacket, $80 (**WITH THE EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT**) out of my pocket because of their *** up. It's not the cashiers issue that HR *** up the scheduling and we are understaffed attendants.
January 16, 2014 on Reddit

I was at bestbuy once, wanted to compare prices on PS3 games and a Jambox and Bose portable speakers, went to Target to use the free wifi and search prices on amazon and went back to best buy to do the shopping. how do you feel about it?

I'm one of those employees who will point you towards another store if I know they have better quality items and prices. All the power to you, my friend.
January 16, 2014 on Reddit

Do you frequently leave your cash register mid-transaction to go buy something for yourself?

I don't cashier often, but when I do, I don't, more so I can't. We are supposed to "zone" the magazine and candy areas around our lane/register, make sure everything looks clean and tidy. If our front lane shift manager saw us walking out of the check out areas and it wasn't our scheduled break time, they would ask us where the hell we were going.

Do you enjoy working at Target?

Compared to my previous job, it's enjoyable! I'm a guest/cart attendant, so I'm constantly on my feet. Being paid to work out is amazing, but on busy days when I am working ***alone*** it's annoying when the managers of the day expect me to drop whatever I'm doing to help them with a task they can get someone else to do.
January 16, 2014 on Reddit

Has anyone ever shot an arrow at the sign? I've always kinda wanted to do that...

I haven't seen anybody do that just yet, nor have I heard any stories. I'm hoping it snows a lot during the winter time, less work for me, more time throwing snowballs at the sign!
September 26, 2012 on Reddit

What are some customer horror stories?

I could write a book. Most of my worst involve my time as a bar manager, for obvious reasons. I think my favorite was from my time at Target. At Target, the group of people below the store manager are known as Executive Team Leaders and assigned to various areas of the store. My last assignment for Target was as ETL-Human Resources. My favorite story from this time was when one of the sales floor ETLs approached a guest and asked (in Target brand fashion) Can I Help You Find Something? "*** you," replied the lady. She was promptly removed from the store. I was subsequently involved in a telephone convo with this lady that went upwards of two hours where we discussed free speech, private property, company policy, my accent (I'm English by birth), and being offended versus enforcing rules. Finally, I got her off the phone, only for her to call back five minutes lates accusing me of calling her a ***.
