LHH is working with our client a manufacturing company in their search for a contract Cost Accountant to take ownership of its cost accounting process. This position will sit onsite in on the east side of Cleveland, OH and will focus on establishing procedures, implementing systems, and creating structure for accurate costing across a large inventory base. You'll have guidance from leadership but will be expected to build the framework and drive improvements independently.
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead
Review overhead rates and ensure accurate cost allocation
Analyze material, labor, and overhead variances; prepare monthly reports
Lead process improvements for inventory accuracy and internal controls
Partner with engineering, procurement, and operations to identify cost-saving opportunities
Provide financial analysis for new products, process changes, and strategic decisions
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
At least 4 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation
Advanced Excel skills
Ability to work independently and take initiative

Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and file accurate and timely sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions, including nexus states where manufacturing and service operations occur.
Analyze and apply taxability rules for manufactured goods, service contracts, repairs, and maintenance of firefighter PPE.
Maintain and reconcile tax liability accounts; ensure proper documentation and audit trails for all filings.
Manage and validate resale and exemption certificates, especially for government and municipal customers.
Collaborate with operations, sales, and service teams to ensure proper tax treatment of custom orders, refurbished equipment, and service agreements.
Respond to tax notices and support state and local audits, including gathering documentation and preparing responses.
Monitor legislative changes affecting sales and use tax in the manufacturing and public safety sectors.
Assist with tax automation initiatives and ERP system enhancements to improve compliance and reporting.
Support month-end and year-end close processes related to indirect tax accounts.
Assist in preparing reports for management and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMI designation a plus

Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Tax Manager, the Tax Analyst will collaborate with other members of the Finance team to ensure that all tax matters are addressed in an effective and efficient manner.
