The Tax Manager serves as the focal point for all federal, state & local corporate tax objectives. The Tax Manager is involved in planning and decision-making to achieve the specified corporate tax objectives. These strategies include positions to be taken regarding federal, state & local and international taxes in new business initiatives, regulatory proceedings, the financial statements and related disclosures, and preparation and audit of corporate consolidated tax returns, and completes tax filings in all jurisdictions. The Tax Manager reports directly to the Director of Tax.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for managing the financial tax reporting, tax planning and tax compliance functions in order to optimize the tax obligations of the company. Relies on experience and judgement to accomplish these tasks.
* Manages the impact of tax policies on corporate financial results.
* Advises on the tax aspects of strategic corporate goals and objectives and keeps management informed of tax opportunities and the tax aspects of pending decisions.
* Completes and files returns with taxing jurisdictions, both in the US and various states, in a timely manner.
* Responsible for coordinating communication with local state and federal tax agencies.
* Coordinates and supports the impact of Avista's tax implications on the consolidated group of companies (regulated and non-regulated) and works with the regulated accounting team on tax compliance and tax planning functions.
Requirements
* A bachelors' degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field
* 7 or more years of related experience. Tax preferred
* Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated experience in accounting practices and federal, state and local tax theory and administration.
* Demonstrated advanced level of technical expertise and independent decision making.
* Requires the capacity to work effectively with peers, external agencies, and management.

Hiring Range: $109,815 to $144,406
Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington Headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with additional day(s) determined by the manager.

Complete assigned monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries and verify support schedules to general ledger accounts as assigned through the Company's quick financial close process
Evaluate balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any reconciling variances
Facilitate activities related to internal and external audits
Perform quarterly internal controls testing
Analyze General Ledger accounts and provide guidance across departments for accurate reporting
Assist with international and domestic tax filings to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local government agencies
Help with analyzing changes in inventory values and investigate significant discrepancies

The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing high-level accounting support to our Cascade manufacturing plants. This role will play a key role in the finance department, providing assistance in various accounting and financial functions.
