Summary
The Indirect Tax Associate will be responsible for indirect processes, which supports critical business operations between the tax department, finance department and regulatory entities, in such a way as to meet and exceed objectives by performing the following duties.
In this role, you will
* Accurately input tax payment invoices into the payment system.
* Prepare and submit local beverage excise tax filings in compliance with regulations.
* Investigate and resolve tax notices promptly and efficiently.
* Maintain, update, and organize tax records for easy retrieval and audit purposes.
* Prepare and file sales tax returns and other related filings as required.
* Conduct research, review, and process unclaimed property items to ensure compliance.
* Issue resale certificates and manage related documentation

Job Description

+ Maintains close liaison with Company personnel and pertinent areas in the accounting and operating departments; keeps informed of changes and developments in these areas; and plans and recommends procedures to minimize the tax cost and to improve tax compliance and reporting procedures compliance procedures.
+ Supports the quarter-end and year-end tax accounting reporting process through preparation or review of tax workpapers and forecasted income tax details.
+ Keep abreast of tax law changes and perform tax research and interpret/document application to the company which could have a significant impact on the company's financial results.
+ Assist in compiling requested information to respond to auditor requests timely, including requests for information from taxing authorities and external auditors.
+ Assist with compiling documentation to support audit protests and the tax reserve entries including assisting with preparing protests, briefs and petitions; and participates in conferences with tax officials.
+ Makes accurate and timely tax return payments (via check, ACH or wire) to tax jurisdictions through SAP in coordination with the preparation and filing of the jurisdictional tax returns; and book journal entries as needed and reconcile tax liability general ledger accounts, as required.
+ Network with internal business partners, including accounting and other business partners, to address questions and resolve issues regarding the reporting of any potential tax liability and changes in the business operations.
+ Identify and assist with the implementation of income tax technology efforts, including process automation/improvements.
+ Assist Tax management with special projects, including time sensitive and confidential projects.
Experience and Education
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Business/Finance/related field. Accounting is preferred.
+ Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience. Preference given to candidates with over 5 years of experience supporting large, publicly traded corporate organizations.
+ Developing skills and expertise of tax rules and regulations.
+ Ability to assist with review of workstreams with low/mid-level complexity.
+ Strong ability to work well across all functions including accounting and other business partners.

As the Property Tax Advisor, you will be responsible for keeping J Joseph's clients compliant and up to date with property tax liabilities. Client relationships are a key metric at J Joseph. Essential Functions
Provide client data analysis, market value and exemption positions for client assets
Prepare Interstate Foreign Commerce (IFC) filing for applicable accounts
Send data requests to obtain income expense, rent roll, occupancy, fixed asset and other financial and property related information
Prepare and submit property tax renditions, returns and exemption applications for the client
Ensure tax code and tax law compliance by reviewing outgoing paperwork (i.e. renditions)
Communicate with clients and taxing authorities in a professional manner
Utilization of approved technologies and processes
Leave no stone unturned when preparing tax forms for clients by reviewing all possible savings strategies
Prepare property tax appeals and attend informal and formal hearings

Participate in process improvement efforts to increase productivity, efficiency and decrease costs at J. Joseph

Lead tax engagements, including planning and exciting tax engagements, managing client deadline expectations, completing returns, and managing budgets.
Review quarterly estimates, extensions, returns, and year-end projections.

As a State & Local Tax Senior Associate, you will be responsible for the following:
Review and prepare complex multi-jurisdictional income/franchise tax returns;
High level of accuracy and attention to detail;
Consistently minimizing review points by ensuring completeness and proactive issue resolution;
Primary responsibility for project management of compliance and consulting engagements
Resolution of tax notices;
Primary responsibility for communications with government agencies;
Become a trusted day-to-day point of contact for multiple clients;
Consistently work with management to identify and research complex client issues;
Engage in state and local tax audits and advocate for clients throughout the controversy process;
Prepare voluntary disclosure agreements, nexus, and taxability studies;
Supervise, train, and mentor Associates and Interns.
Requirements:
Bachelor's / Master's degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent
Active CPA/EA license required or actively being pursued
Active CMI certification, a plus
2-3 years or more of experience, preferably in public accounting
Demonstrate proficiency with pass-through entities and C corporations related to state & local income/franchise tax matters
Working knowledge of individual state and local tax matters, a plus
Solid oral and written communication skills
Experience with Microsoft Office software suite
Excellent ability to perform technical tax research, summarize, and communicate findings
Excellent skills in coaching and developing tax associates and interns

Summary
The Indirect Tax Associate will be responsible for indirect processes, which supports critical business operations between the tax department, finance department and regulatory entities, in such a way as to meet and exceed objectives by performing the following duties.

The **Sr. Sales & Use Tax Accountant** reporting to the Indirect Tax Lead, will oversee the daily operations of Sales and Use Tax compliance, property tax, audits and tax projects. The Sr. Sales and Use Tax Accountant will be instrumental in developing and maintaining the department processes and standards while implementing continuous improvements. This position will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Sales and Use Tax Group.
**Responsibilities**
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Oversee sales and use tax and property tax returns for all legal entities from compile source data to reviewing filed tax returns. Work with business units, IT, third party consultants to compile accurate data effectively. Ensure data ties to general ledger and payment request from third party preparers.
+ Perform tax research and provide taxability guidance to stakeholders.
+ Write desktop procedures to document processes and modify as needed.
+ Review sales contracts and procurement contracts to identify sales tax issues, and recommend solutions.
+ Review transactions for applicable Use Tax and post related journal entries
+ Ensure compliance responsibilities in all states and businesses, evaluate state regulations and acceptable accounting practices, provide service to internal and external customers, and evaluate complete assignments for conformance with applicable policies, regulations and tax laws.
+ Complete sales and use tax audits. Work with auditors from notice of intent to audit to completion. Modify taxability in tax systems as needed based on findings.
+ Identify and implement process improvements in the Sales and Use Tax Department.
+ Ensure financial reports are prepared and paid accurately and timely in order to avoid penalties.
+ Maintain assigned GL account reconciliations while preventing financial risk to the company.
+ Assist in various departmental projects, taking a lead role in planning, coordinating and facilitating projects through their completion.
+ Other duties as assigned.
