We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of five years of accounting experience, including involvement in payroll accounting. This position will report to the Accounting Manager/Controller.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
Prepare journal entries and maintain accruals.

What You Will Do:

The Motor Fuels Tax Specialist is integral in ensuring our company adheres to motor fuel tax laws and regulations, ensuring accurate and timely tax compliance, tracking and analyzing notices, assisting with audits, and performing account reconciliations. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and excel skills, attention to detail, the desire and ability to learn in a fast-paced growth focused organization, and the ability to learn to navigate multiple software systems.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare files used in the review of tax returns prepared by the outsourced provider and prepare General Ledger (GL) entries as assigned.
* Coordinate the filing of paper tax returns with the Tax Administration team.
* Monitor and manage tax notices received through various methods including online portals, email, and mail.
* Maintain an accurate and up-to-date log of all tax notices.
* Research and prepare draft responses for tax notices to ensure issues are resolved promptly.
* Assist in gathering necessary information and documentation for tax audits.
* Support the drafting of response materials for audit queries.
* Collaborate with auditors and internal teams to ensure smooth audit processes.
* Prepare account reconciliations, including initial research and information compilation.
* Ensure reconciliations are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
* Identify and resolve any discrepancies found during the reconciliation process.
Qualifications:
* Associates degree or High School Diploma with a minimum of 4 years professional experience or a Bachelor's degree with 2 years professional experience required.
* Experience in Motor Fuel or Sales/Use Taxation of two or more years required
* Experience with account reconciliation preferred.
* Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel (with an ability to use Formulas, Filtering, Pivot Tables, V-Lookups, etc.)
* Comfortable being in the office to team with others 4 or more days per week
