Akerman LLP seeks an Associate with 4 to 7 years of civil tax controversy experience (preferably at a law firm). The ideal candidate will have experience representing taxpayers before, and interacting with, the Internal Revenue Service (e.g., Examination, Independent Office of Appeals, Collections, Office of Chief Counsel) and state revenue/tax agencies; conducting efficient legal research and analysis; reviewing and preparing draft legal documents related to tax controversy matters, including penalty abatement requests, protest letters, petitions, motions and other pleadings, and responses to audit information document requests and collection notices; managing multiple projects and deadlines while working under the supervision of attorneys across offices; interacting daily with clients and managing client relationships; and working directly and effectively with large transactional practices. Prepare individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns, including OVDP and Streamlined compliance filings.
Review client data, prepare journal entries, and perform reconciliations.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINE:
Bachelor's in Accounting required, Master's in Taxation or LLM a plus, minimum of 2-4 years public accounting experience (Big 4 and / or Regional Accounting firm experience a plus) and strong demonstrated progress to pursue CPA license if not already licensed.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite environment is required. Experience with tax technology similar to CCH WK, ProSystem Tax, Engagement, Fixed Assets is also required.
C-Corp, Partnership, S-Corp, Individual tax preparation and review experience is a requirement of the position.
ASC 740, ASC 740-10, and multi-state experience preferred, though not required.

Job Description
The Fixed Asset Accountant is responsible for the recording, transfer, and disposition of fixed assets, recording and tracking of construction in progress, and monthly reconciliations of the fixed asset subsidiary ledger and construction in progress tracking schedule to the general ledger.
Record capital asset acquisitions (both newly acquired and constructed), disposals, and transfers
Run monthly depreciation for all fixed assets
Prepare fixed asset and construction in process-related journal entries as necessary
Perform monthly reconciliations including reconciling the fixed asset subsidiary ledger and construction in progress tracking schedule to the general ledger
Monitor capital projects and work with business partners on timely and accurate reporting of construction in progress
Research and investigate financial variances related to fixed assets for monthly fluctuation analysis
Prepare corporate accounting schedules required as support for quarterly and annual filings and assist with auditor fixed asset inquiries
Ability to perform ad-hoc fixed asset/CIP analysis requests by management
Identify opportunities to automate general ledger impacting activities
Ensure compliance with accounting and reporting deadlines
Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting (Active CPA or CPA eligible preferred)
Knowledge of US GAAP (IFRS knowledge a plus)
5+ years of demonstrated general ledger accounting experience
1+ years of fixed asset accounting experience preferred
Experience working with various systems (Sage Intacct & Blackline a plus)
Advanced in Microsoft Excel
Highly detail-oriented and organized in work
Proactive self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced environment and an ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet pressing deadlines
Team player with a strong work ethic
Excellent conceptual, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
