Some places are better than others when it comes to starting a career as a tax clerk. The best states for people in this position are Alaska, New York, Delaware, and New Jersey. Tax clerks make the most in Alaska with an average salary of $41,747. Whereas in New York and Delaware, they would average $40,487 and $38,787, respectively. While tax clerks would only make an average of $36,933 in New Jersey, you would still make more there than in the rest of the country.
