The State and Local Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for tax compliance, tax systems, and tax planning/special projects for state and local indirect taxes, including sales, use, gross receipts, and property taxes. The individual in this position is also responsible for managing the outsourced property tax process. This position reports directly to the Director - Sales Tax.

As a Business Analyst, you will work directly with the product and engineering teams on the development of corporate tax applications for Bloomberg Tax and Accounting's software division. As someone who has practiced in the tax and accounting domain, you provide critically important context to the product team to help them make well-informed decisions about the products we build. You do this primarily by contributing to product discovery and development efforts related to key tax and accounting domain concepts.
Primary Responsibilities:

Participate in continuous customer discovery with product and engineering team members to develop deep understanding of customer needs. Share domain insights constantly with the team. Support ongoing product delivery efforts by addressing domain questions during grooming and in sprint, developing test data sets, and performing UAT over completed user stories and features. Research tax and accounting issues that directly relate to product initiatives and communicate findings clearly and concisely to product and engineering teams. Partner with product managers on feature discovery and release scoping. Contribute to the creation of effective tools for customer discovery (e.g., problem statements, mock-ups, prototypes) while working alongside user experience (UX) designers. Contribute to product domain thought leadership and perform product demonstrations as needed in support of customer experience (CX), sales, and marketing teams. Analyze domain customer support issues by working directly with customers, researching and scoping problem, and brainstorming cost-effective solutions in coordination with the customer support team. Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

Excellent ability to translate complex technical tax and accounting concepts into layman's terms. Excellent knowledge of general corporate income tax principles. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and, in particular, non-tax stakeholders. Embraces technology and exhibits intellectual curiosity in applying technology to solve customer problems. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Excel. Willingness to travel to industry conferences and to perform customer discovery (up to 20% of time).


Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree required, concentration in Accounting, Finance or Economics degree strongly preferred. CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred. 3+ years working in a corporate tax or accounting department or CPA firm.

Qualifications


5+ years of recent experience in public accounting, preferably in a large local/regional or Big 4 firm; experience in a paperless environment is preferred Experience with partnership returns (preferably real estate/construction clients) or S-corp, C-corp returns or HNW individual returns is required; SALT, ASC740, and personal income tax experience is preferred Must be CPA licensed Excellent verbal and written communication skills Proven ability to give and receive both positive and constructive feedback Strong attention to detail, problem solving and organizational skills
