What You'll Do
As a Tax Accountant, you'll play a key role in managing client relationships and delivering accurate, insightful, and timely financial results. You'll work directly with business owners and individuals, helping them navigate complex tax and accounting issues while identifying strategies to help them save and succeed.
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing and reviewing business and individual income tax returns.
Managing year-end trial balances and adjusting journal entries.
Communicating directly with clients to provide proactive tax guidance.
Reviewing bookkeeping work prepared by team members.
Reconciling accounts, entering payroll journal entries, and reviewing sales tax returns.

As a High Net Worth Trust & Estate/Tax Specialist, you will:
Develop and handle strong relationships with Schwab Wealth Advisory team.
Function as an in-house subject matter authority on sophisticated trust, estate and income tax questions and issues.

The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a Payroll Tax Analyst, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all payroll tax regulations and requirements for both US and Canada (USAC). Here, you will make an impact by:
Tax Compliance: Ensuring that USAC complies with federal, state, provincial, and local payroll tax regulations by utilizing a third-party vendor to manage all tax preparations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, including the preparation of year-end tax statements.
Data Analysis: Analyzing payroll tax data to ensure accuracy and identify any discrepancies. Conduct regular audits of payroll tax records and resolve any issues that arise.
Reconciliation: Vendor billing reconciliation to actual charges as well as resolving any tax account discrepancies.
Regulatory Updates: Staying informed about changes in payroll tax laws and regulations. Implement necessary changes to payroll processes to maintain compliance.
Collaboration: Working closely with HR, Finance, and IT departments to ensure seamless payroll processing and integration of payroll tax data (including stock integrations).
Audit Support: Assist in internal and external audits related to payroll taxes. Provide necessary documentation and respond to inquiries from auditors and tax authorities.
System Maintenance: Supporting the maintenance and enhancement of payroll systems to improve efficiency and accuracy in payroll tax processing.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university and a minimum of two (2) years' experience in Payroll, Human Resources, and/or Finance in a private, public, government or military environment.
OR
High School degree/GED (completed and verified prior to start) and a minimum of six (6) years' experience in Payroll, Human Resources, and/or Finance in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

The Payroll Tax Analyst will own the processes to audit and balance all payroll-related activities and tax reporting to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local tax jurisdictions across 12 legal entities and all 50 states. Serve as a subject matter expert for more complex payroll tax issues and lead the research and resolution of discrepancies and escalations in partnership with outside vendors. Maintain working knowledge of changes with legislation and impacts in taxation and reporting. Lead the responses to tax escalations and work payroll specialists and the call center. Responsible for reviewing employee tax data for accuracy.
Responsibilities
Assist in reconciling payroll and tax reporting processes, ensuring accuracy and resolving discrepancies as needed.
Assist with the processing of tax payments that are outside of the vendor's responsibility.

Collaborate with third-party administrator (ADP) and jurisdictions when complex issues occur and require more in-depth research to respond to notices of inconsistencies. Lead the processing of corrections to wage and tax information based on system audits and applicable tax rules.
Play a key role in the annual payroll year-end process and other key projects impacting payroll.
Remain current on industry changes and understand how Ameriprise plans, practices, and policies are impacted. Provide consulting to specific plan owners to ensure taxation and reporting requirements are understood and meet the requirements. Determine impacts and works with appropriate groups to update systems and processes as appropriate.

Summary
The Indirect Tax Specialist is responsible for assisting the Tax department's global and domestic indirect tax functions. The position supports the Tax Team by ensuring effectiveness, accuracy, and efficiency with tax transactions.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Ensures the accurate processing of transactions in accordance with accounting guidelines and internal control policies
Assists with overall department indirect tax compliance and planning, including:
International Value Added Tax (“VAT”)
Federal, State & Local Telecom Taxes
Foreign Withholding Tax
Excise Tax
Sales/Use Tax
Other Misc. Tax (e.g., OH CAT, OR CAT, WA B&O, etc.)
Business Licenses/Registrations
Reviews monthly reconciliation of non-income tax related accounts
Assists in the preparation of the annual Tax Provision calculations and supporting workpapers
Assists the Tax Director with preparation of income tax footnotes for the Company's annual financial statements
Assists in coordinating periodic tax-related meetings with external advisors and Tax Director as necessary
Provides frequent and routine updates to Tax Director
Assists Tax Director with delivering regular tax updates to Senior Management
Strives to ensure collection of tax refunds due to the Company and minimize the potential for interest/penalties related to late and/or missed tax filings/payments
Assists in identifying, and implementing indirect tax opportunities for the Company
Collaborates in researching, documenting, relevant tax regulations related to various indirect tax issues.
Assists with indirect tax audits (e.g., sales/use tax, international VAT, etc.)
Keeps track of fixed asset accounting for applicable Use Tax
Interacts with internal business units and provides feedback on indirect tax matters and processes so as to ensure that all existing and new operations are efficient and fully understood
Coordinates training sessions as necessary
Coordinates indirect tax outsourcing vendor relationships
Assists with indirect tax related dispute resolution with vendors, customers, and tax authorities
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
5+ more years of Tax & Accounting experience
Able to handle a fast-paced work environment with multiple demands, competing priorities and rapid change; responds with a sense of urgency and consistently meets deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Office
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
High commitment to internal controls
Excellent customer service skills
Professional demeanor and interpersonal effectiveness; able to collaborate cross-functionally with non-Finance teams
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
CPA certification
