How You'll Make an Impact
Dudek is currently seeking a full-time senior-level Biologist to join our biological resources team. The successful candidate will help grow Dudek's biological resources practice; with a focus on aquatic resource delineations and permitting; and work collaboratively with other Dudek staff based throughout our California offices. This position will necessitate both in-office and field-based work and can be located out of any of our California offices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and lead aquatic resource delineations;
Plan and lead collection of detailed field data, work in remote field locations, hike steep slopes over uneven terrain, and work full days in all types of weather
Prepare and oversee preparation of reports summarizing methodology, field survey results and recommendations;
Prepare and oversee preparation of Aquatic Resources Delineation Reports;
Prepare and oversee preparation of documents supporting environmental permit applications and CEQA/NEPA aquatic resources evaluations;
Prepare scopes of work and cost estimates for aquatic resources delineation work;
Manage technical projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely and efficient delivery;
Lead, mentor, and support project teams with the goal of maximizing performance and efficiency in the field and with report writing;
Mentor and train junior staff in collaboration with other senior staff;
Participate in the development of guides and training materials;
Represent Dudek and clients in agency meetings and public hearings as a subject matter expert for aquatic resource delineations and permitting;
Track and keep abreast of regulatory and delineation protocol changes to ensure compliance with the latest requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, botany, environmental science or related natural resources field;
A minimum of 12 years' of experience preparing and focusing solely on aquatic delineations and identifying wetland mapping boundaries using the 1987 US Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual and Regional Supplements.
Expert-level knowledge of state and federal statutes, regulations, and permitting requirements relating to the Federal Clean Water Act, California Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act, and California Fish and Game Code;
Expert-level knowledge of California aquatic resource types and systems; including disturbed and difficult sites in diverse environments (deserts, coasts, mountains, etc.)
Knowledge and applied experience with soil science;
Demonstrated experience with management of projects involving complex biological/aquatic resource impact analyses and mitigation planning;
Strong written and oral communication skills;
Expert-level experience with GPS technologies (e.g, ESRI FieldMaps) for mapping aquatic resources;
Willingness to travel throughout California for work, including over-night stays in hotels;
Must possess a valid driver's license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in biology, ecology, botany, environmental science or related natural resources field;
Leadership and strong ability to work in a collaborative environment;
Regarded as an expert in the field and sought out as an instructor and presenter by outside parties;
Understanding of delineation process for two-parameter wetlands per California Coastal Commission;

Compensation: $100,000-150,000/annually*

Our Field Wildlife Biologist (Project Biologist) | Part-time, Hybrid position will be located in California in a hybrid work schedule.
This Field Wildlife Biologist role involves conducting biological surveys, preparing reports, and monitoring construction activities to ensure regulatory compliance. The position requires strong field-based decision-making, communication skills, and proficiency with tools like ArcGIS GPS for mapping biological resources.
As a key member of the team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
Perform biological surveys, report preparation, data tracking and analysis, construction monitoring, and other services related to compliance with the biological and regulatory requirements associated with the projects.
Biological monitoring duties require in-field decision-making as well as oral and written communication skills.
Duties may include general and focused biological resource surveys, nest surveys and monitoring, habitat restoration monitoring, web-based reporting, and the use of ArcGIS GPS equipment for mapping identified biological resources.
Southern and/or Central California biological field experience required. Training will also be provided as needed.
Maintain confidentiality at all times.

YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

BS in biology, ecology, wetland science, plant ecology, or similar fields.
Valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record per company standards
1-6 years of professional experience in biological surveys, biological/construction monitoring, or similar field/biological experience.
Proven familiarity with biological resources in Southern and/or Central California with a strength in botany, wildlife biology, and/or wetland ecology.
Basic understanding of FESA, CESA, CEQA, and NEPA.
Experience and training with ArcGIS and GPS technologies for large-scale biological resource inventories and conservation planning efforts.
Professional experience with one or more of these species is preferred: desert tortoise, Arroyo toad, red-legged frog, burrowing owl, coastal California gnatcatcher, least Bell's vireo, desert kit fox, Mohave ground squirrel, San Bernardino kangaroo rat, Stephen's kangaroo rat, as well as other special-status plant and wildlife species in southern and central California.
Experience with plant and wildlife on Catalina Island and Coastal Zone is preferred.
Professional experience with nest monitoring, construction monitoring and compliance, or habitat restoration is preferred.
Current/previous USFWS 10(a)(1)(A) Permit and current/previous CDFW Scientific Collecting Permits is preferred.

Battelle manages and operates the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) program, which is solely funded by the National Science Foundation. A 30+ year project dedicated to understanding how changes in climate, land use and invasive species impact ecology, the observatory's scientists and engineers are collecting a comprehensive range of ecological data on a continental scale across 20 eco-climatic domains representing US ecosystems. **Job Summary**
We are currently seeking Field Ecologist II - Mammalogy. This position is **an on-site** position located in **Front Royal, VA.**
The Mid-Atlantic Domain (Domain 02) has undergone massive changes and development over the last 250 years. Data from the NEON field sites in Maryland and Virginia provide a window into how land use patterns, invasive species and climate change are impacting eastern habitats and ecosystems. NEON sites in the Mid-Atlantic Domain are managed from our Front Royal, VA office at NZCBI (National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work involves walking, hiking, prolonged standing, bending, and kneeling. Heavy items, equipment and packs up to 40 pounds, must be lifted and carried on a routine basis. Field work includes exposure to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, rough and variable terrain, toxic plants (e.g., poison ivy), stinging and biting insects (high prevalence of tick-borne pathogens), and wildlife hazards. Driving off-road in 4WD vehicles is required for most field sites.
Work Schedule and Travel
Work schedules are typically 8-10 hours per day but can occasionally be 12+ hours per day, including split shifts (off in the middle of the day), starting before dawn and/or ending after dusk, and weekends depending on the work assignment. The ratio of field to lab work is about 75% field and 25% office and lab duties.
Frequent overnight travel (e.g., monthly for 1-3 nights) is required.

Arcadis is seeking a Staff Ecologist /Environmental Scientist to join our pacific northwest Enviro Socio Permitting team. The successful candidate will support the development of desktop reviews and lead field data collection for wetland/waterbody delineations, endangered species habitat assessments, and environmental assessments and/or preparation of reports to document field data collection. The successful candidate will also provide support on regulatory agency coordination and permit development and compliance. This role will primarily support Arcadis' planning and permitting team working with linear infrastructure including natural gas and rail projects, in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The position will require a candidate to work both collaboratively with a team of resource specialists and have the capacity to balance varying priorities and tasks to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet deliverable deadlines. Role accountabilities:
As a Staff Ecologist/Environmental Scientist, you will apply your technical knowledge to work with client teams to provide high quality deliverables to support planning and permitting for major utility and key Arcadis' clients. You will be an important member of the west coast Enviro Socio Permitting team interacting with junior level biologists/ecologist, senior technical experts and project managers as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Primary functions will include:
* Lead wetland determination/delineation, flora and fauna, and habitat surveys; conduct agency consultations species; and develop permitting strategies.
* Use your strong technical writing and communications skills to develop technical reports, work plans, memoranda, and other environmental documents to support permitting. Likely to include the preparation of regulatory permit application packages (e.g., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Clean Water Act Section 404 permit applications and Section 401 Water Quality Certification applications, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 408 review requests, and Section 402 National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit applications).
* Manage desktop environmental assessments using current assessment technologies and methods to identify potential permitting requirements and support development of permitting strategies to provide guidance to internal teams and clients.
* Provide task management support to assist with the growth of new and existing client relationships through delivery of quality work and data.
* Maintain electronic file systems and record keeping using SharePoint and other cloud-based platforms.
This role will primarily be office based; however, as needed, you will need to conduct field assessments related to ecological aspects of projects. This will require a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as carry supplies weighing up to 30 pounds. This role will require field work up to 50% of the time. Local field work is typically one-to-two-day projects, with the potential for occasional concurrent or longer field assignments lasting 5-7 days.
