Founded in 1871 by John, Robert and Samuel Turner, the business began by weaving a type of lubricated cotton to create specialist packing rings in the corner of their father’s cotton mill in Rochdale.
The following paragraphs present a short history of the five periods of TBA history from 1920 to the present day.
The Texas Bandmasters Association was formed in 1920 by a small group of Texas bandmasters to organize band contests and promote bands.
Vocal directors were admitted to the association in 1938 and the name was changed to the Texas Music Educators Association.
At a called meeting during the TMEA convention on February 1, 1940 in Mineral Wells, a group of these directors reactivated the Texas Bandmasters Association.
At the annual meeting in 1946, definite plans were made to organize a separate TBA clinic-convention centered on marching band techniques and new music.
The modern TBA began with the first TBA clinic-convention at Alamo Heights High School, in San Antonio, on September 2, 3, and 4, 1948.
On Thanksgiving Day, 1955, the Traverse City Board of Education Employees Credit Union was chartered.

In 1995 TBA became the first company to bring a flexible fire barrier for compartmentation purposes to the market, with the FIREFLY™ range.

TBA Theatre was founded in 2003, by Shane Mitchell, Wayne Mitchell, Erin Mitchell, Eric Brown, Andrea Egger and Megan Bladow.
2005 Program Committee established
In 2006, TBA expanded and produced our first Main Stage Season of Plays at APU Grant Hall.

In 2016, the company rebranded as TBA Protective Technologies, a name chosen to represent our numerous developments as a company and our tireless dedication to developing technically superior products to revolutionise the industry.
Bought by the owner of the Fothergill group of companies in 2017, TBA Protective Technologies is moving forward with continued growth in existing and new markets.
