What you will do
Under minimal supervision, conducts preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems). Responsible for high levels of customer satisfaction through direct, on site, customer interface. With a high level of complete technical competence, mentors control technicians, service technicians and mechanical technicians on building automation activities. Properly completes required project and service documentation. Provide our customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service-related items. As a trusted advisor to our customers, you will provide solutions and outcomes at the time of service
How you will do it
Diagnoses and repairs complex control systems malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software.
Consults with the customer through data gathered and site assessments. Provides field proposals for retrofits, upgrades and or enhancements to existing equipment. Assists sales by providing technical recommendations for sales leads.
Manages assigned work to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction. Reports problems or changes to management immediately. Interfaces with branch manager, service manager, service project manager or subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities as required ethically and professionally.
Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings. May assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
Communicates with customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site. Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction. Meets regularly with customers to become familiar with operating problems. Keeps customer informed on the service provided, outstanding issues and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and replacement. Promotes the sale of add-on work.
Adheres to all Johnson Controls and customer safety standards. Provides safety leadership and instruction to all control's technicians in the branch. Provides safety awareness while working onsite with Johnson Controls subcontractors.
Trains the customer in control systems operations. Delivers manuals and documentation to the customer for training needs as required.
Provides mentorship for certification of Controls Technicians and Service Technicians on complex building automation systems. Coaches, supports and trains the technical workforce on non-complex, non-critical equipment.
Compiles job documentation, such as certificate of completion, customer training form, training certificates and punch lists.
Conducts extensive self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company.
Other duties related to the installing, commissioning and servicing of building controls and facilities management systems and energy management systems, as assigned.
Assists in the design and configuration of building control systems as defined by the contract documents. Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, and bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
Assists in developing and testing software programs necessary to operate the system per the project requirements' intent.
Compiles and/or completes project as built and close-out documentation.
Assists in the coordination and creation of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects. Coordinates factory-mounting processes to meet factory and project schedule.
Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
May provide field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software.
Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
Assists in performing site-specific training for owner / operator on the total building control system.
Participates in release meeting with project field team.
Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities.
Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

Be a dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and be responsible for system trouble shooting, repair and aftermarket services for this fast-growing business.
Minimum of Four (4) years Commercial Controls troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry. This includes buildings, chiller plants and systems.
Vocational School program graduate or an associate's degree in a technical field, or two years' experience in servicing electronic and or mechanical systems.
Demonstrated ability to install and/or service electronic control systems and HVAC equipment.
Effective communication skills to represent Johnson Controls on customer sites.
Possesses the ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.
Demonstrate effective writing skills as well as understanding of programs and software applications.
Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and other building subsystems.

Service Tech Positions and Responsibilities:
Service Tech I- The Service Technician I is often a recent graduate from an accredited trade school entering the field of HVAC service and repair and/or has 3 or fewer years of experience in the field. The Service Technician I position is qualified and able to make repairs in the field but is not considered proficient enough to make diagnosis for the repairs unsupervised. The Service Technician I is expected to be proficient in the area of preventative maintenance work. Attitude, work ethic, and a willingness to learn is sought after more than field experience in this position. Pay range: $20-$25 per hour.
Service Tech II - The Service Technician II has required accreditations including EPA certification and generally has more than 3 years' experience in the field of HVAC service and repair. The Service Technician II position is qualified and skilled in maintaining and servicing commercial grade HVAC equipment including but not limited to unitary products up to 50-ton package units, boilers, and heat exchangers without supervision. Pay range: $25-$33 per hour.
Service Tech III - The Service Technician III has required accreditations including EPA certification and generally has more than 5 years' experience in the field of HVAC service and repair. The Service Technician III position is qualified and skilled in maintaining and servicing commercial grade HVAC equipment, including but not limited to, unitary products up to 50-ton package units, boilers, heat exchangers, control valves, chillers (including retrofitting) without supervision. Pay range: $33-$42 per hour.
Chiller Tech - The Chiller Technician has required accreditations including EPA certification, extensive training and certifications from multiple manufacturers and reps, and extensive, customer verifiable, experience with applied equipment service, maintenance and diagnostic/repair work to meet or exceed 8 years. The Chiller Technician position is qualified and skilled in maintaining and servicing commercial and industrial grade HVAC equipment, including but not limited to, unitary products up to 50-ton package units, AHUs, VAV, VFDs, boilers, heat exchangers, control valves, air-cooled and water-cooled chillers (including tear down/rebuild processes) without supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Diagnose HVAC system performance through observation, testing and setup.
Disassemble and reassemble residential equipment to perform trouble shooting and preventative maintenance.
Read, understand and quote customer prices out of Straightforward Pricing Guide.
Operate hand tools, power tools, gauges and measuring equipment to perform service of the unit.
Lift, carry, pull, and push components/equipment to test, setup or maintain HVAC equipment.
Give and take written and verbal instructions.
Complete documents to verify work performed in a legible manner
Operate a commercial vehicle and trailer.
Work flexible hours as required.
Explain service charges and work performed to the customer.
Work a rotating on call nights and week-ends when assigned.
Sell HVAC replacement systems, accessories and service agreements to homeowner.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Pass Technician Level 3 with minimum of 5 years' experience.
Diploma from a recognized trade or technical school or equivalent comprised of 2-5 years' experience and training preferred but not required.
Diagnostic ability as demonstrated through prior experience and/or training.
Pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
Ability to safely operate a company motor vehicle as evidenced by past driving performance record and to adhere to all company safety requirements.
Ability to drive company vehicle, safely and professionally.
Ability to competently use a variety of gauges, meters, measuring instruments, air balance equipment, combustion analyzers, pumps, hoists, rigging equipment, torches, and hand tools.
Ability to effectively communicate with the customer.
Ability to work independently, under pressure and without close supervision; willing and able to consistently work the scheduled required by job demands.
Work a rotating on call nights and week-ends when assigned.
Physical Qualifications
Ability to tolerate extreme environmental conditions consisting of extreme heat, cold, noise, vibration, fumes, dusts, poor ventilation.
Ability to stand, walk and to climb ladders and attic stairs and to maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces.
Ability to regularly climb and work from 4'- 32' ladders, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, twist, grasp to perform essential job functions.
Must not exceed 300 pounds in weight including clothes and equipment to meet OSHA guidelines on Fall Protection.
Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force (pulling, pushing, lifting, carrying, etc.) regularly and up to 50 pounds of force frequently.

JOB DUTIES / GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
JOB DUTIES / GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
The HVAC Technician has required accreditations including EPA certification and generally has more than 3 years' experience in the field of HVAC service and repair. The HVAC Technician is qualified and skilled in maintaining and servicing commercial grade HVAC equipment including but not limited to unitary products up to 50-ton package units, boilers, and heat exchangers without supervision.
* Service a wide range of equipment using various troubleshooting techniques for all sizes of commercial package units, water source heat pumps, mini-splits, and/or VRF systems. Experience with Stultz and Liebert units a plus.
* Assist, when needed, in the service of chillers, boilers, control valves, and cooling towers on supervised projects. Previous experience a plus.
* Uses cutting edge software and technology, along with a variety of hand-tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units.
* Provide all information from each service call to the dispatcher before leaving job site and document work by accurately completing paperwork and maintaining files.
* Continually enforces safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions.
* Displays team effort and dedication to customers by maintaining flexibility to work overtime, on-call rotation and weekends as the business requires, including occasional overnight stays.
* Take an active role in ensuring a level of customer satisfaction that is above and beyond customer expectations.
* On a rotational basis, be available to work weekends and evenings for the emergency service needs of our customers.
* Must have a good driving record and possess a valid driver's license and EPA license.
* Ability to frequently lift 30lbs and occasionally lift 50lbs.
* Must be able to pass a DFW Airport background check and obtain DFW Airport badge clearance.
Hourly Rate:
$24/hr. to 32/hr. commensurate with qualifications.
