Union Tank Car Company is seeking applicants to become a Valve Specialist at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Cleveland, Texas.
The Company's regulatory, engineering and commercial expertise make UTLX the preferred source of railcars and services for many of its customers. Owned by the Marmon Group and Berkshire Hathaway, UTLX headquarters is in Chicago's financial district, close to major public transportation hubs. We are seeking a 3rd shift Valve Technician for our Valve shop that will perform assembly and disassembly processes, as well as additional responsibilities as needed. The rate of pay for this role will be $26.59-$28.10 plus shift differential.
Primary Job Functions
This is not an exhaustive list and employees in these classifications frequently may be required to perform additional duties. Not all classifications will be required to perform all job functions.
Removes, cleans, repairs, tests, and applies valves and fittings when required.
Disassembles and assembles fittings on tank cars.
Tests tank car, fittings, and valves to reveal possible defects.
Rebuilds tank car fittings and valves; tests them using specified methods.
Maintains stock levels of and issues tools, spare parts, safety equipment, and related repair and repair support items to production, maintenance, and other production support personnel.
Performs inspection to issued items to ensure that they are safe and in satisfactory condition.
Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Must possess a High School Diploma/GED; or have the ability to successfully complete an on-site basic skills assessment.
Must have strong mechanical abilities and be familiar with power tools.
Environmental Conditions
Moderate to heavy physical effort involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment to car to perform operation.
Climbs, walks, and balances on top of car.
Uses hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury.

JOB SUMMARY
A Service Technician is the front line and point person for our brand to the rider and encourages successful, profitable retail by taking their technical expertise to the next level as a driver of outstanding in store brand experiences. A Service Technician works directly with riders, both present and remote, to identify and locate the goods, services, and experiences needed to provide solutions quickly and frictionlessly to keep them riding longer and better. What you will do
Under minimal supervision, conducts preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems). Responsible for high levels of customer satisfaction through direct, on site, customer interface. With a high level of complete technical competence, mentors control technicians, service technicians and mechanical technicians on building automation activities. Properly completes required project and service documentation. Provide our customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service-related items. As a trusted advisor to our customers, you will provide solutions and outcomes at the time of service
How you will do it
Diagnoses and repairs complex control systems malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software.
Consults with the customer through data gathered and site assessments. Provides field proposals for retrofits, upgrades and or enhancements to existing equipment. Assists sales by providing technical recommendations for sales leads.
Manages assigned work to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction. Reports problems or changes to management immediately. Interfaces with branch manager, service manager, service project manager or subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities as required ethically and professionally.
Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings. May assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
Communicates with customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site. Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction. Meets regularly with customers to become familiar with operating problems. Keeps customer informed on the service provided, outstanding issues and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and replacement. Promotes the sale of add-on work.
Adheres to all Johnson Controls and customer safety standards. Provides safety leadership and instruction to all control's technicians in the branch. Provides safety awareness while working onsite with Johnson Controls subcontractors.
Trains the customer in control systems operations. Delivers manuals and documentation to the customer for training needs as required.
Provides mentorship for certification of Controls Technicians and Service Technicians on complex building automation systems. Coaches, supports and trains the technical workforce on non-complex, non-critical equipment.
Compiles job documentation, such as certificate of completion, customer training form, training certificates and punch lists.
Conducts extensive self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company.
Other duties related to the installing, commissioning and servicing of building controls and facilities management systems and energy management systems, as assigned.
Assists in the design and configuration of building control systems as defined by the contract documents. Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, and bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
Assists in developing and testing software programs necessary to operate the system per the project requirements' intent.
Compiles and/or completes project as built and close-out documentation.
Assists in the coordination and creation of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects. Coordinates factory-mounting processes to meet factory and project schedule.
Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
May provide field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software.
Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
Assists in performing site-specific training for owner / operator on the total building control system.
Participates in release meeting with project field team.
Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities.

Required
Be a dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and be responsible for system trouble shooting, repair and aftermarket services for this fast-growing business.
Minimum of Four (4) years Commercial Controls troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry. This includes buildings, chiller plants and systems.
Vocational School program graduate or an associate's degree in a technical field, or two years' experience in servicing electronic and or mechanical systems.
Demonstrated ability to install and/or service electronic control systems and HVAC equipment.
Effective communication skills to represent Johnson Controls on customer sites.
Possesses the ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.
Demonstrate effective writing skills as well as understanding of programs and software applications.
Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and other building subsystems.

Heavy Equipment Shop Service Technician/Mechanic Position Purpose
Responsible for performing quality work on various brands as effectively and profitably as possible. This includes diagnosing, parts ordering, technical report writing, maintaining care of company assets, and proper communication with others.
Heavy Equipment Shop Service Technician/Mechanic Essential Functions
Communicates and supports the Kirby Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
Performs Shop repairs and maintenance with little or no direct supervision
Diagnoses and evaluates problems with equipment; makes repairs using established guidelines following established flat rates
Plans methods and sequence of performing assigned repairs
Notifies the Manager of any additional work required on the unit
Models safe work habits and always abides by company safety policies and procedures
Keeps rework within established guidelines
Organizes, cleans, and maintains a safe work area
Contributes to departmental and product line goals
Completes required paperwork efficiently and timely
Attends factory and other training as specified by supervisor
Ensures that the shop equipment remains in optimal working order and is consistently maintained in a clean state
Exhibits professional demeanor with customers, managers, and colleagues
Promotes goodwill with customers and exhibits excellent customer relation behaviors
Consistent and reliable on-site attendance

Heavy Equipment Shop Service Technician/Mechanic Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Two (2) years of experience in diagnosing and repairing construction equipment
Ability to read complex hydraulic and electrical schematics
Furnish and maintain a set of hand tools and any special tools required by the company
Ability to occasionally work overtime, stay overnight, and work on weekends when needed
Maintain valid driver's license; CDL if required
Heavy Equipment Shop Service Technician/Mechanic Physical Requirements:
Pushing/Pulling/Lifting/Carrying up to 100 pounds without assistance
Physical ability to squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb, and reach overhead
Must be able to work in extreme heat or cold and wet, damp, dusty, or windy conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises, hazardous materials, and fumes/odors associated with the shop
Physical ability to perform maintenance on equipment for extended hours with continual mounting and dismounting throughout the workday

We are currently seeking to hire a Maintenance Technician as a member of our Seamless Team your importance is supporting or preventative maintenance programs. As the Maintenance Technician, you will assist in the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities. You will work to minimize unplanned downtime, improve production quality, increase equipment efficiency, and maintain a clean and a safe work environment.
Follow the facilitys preventative maintenance program
Conduct scheduled inspections of fluid levels, air filters, Machines notify supervisor of issues as needed
Maintain clean and organized environment in the Maintenance Department work area; promptly clean up after maintenance and repair work is completed within the facility
Assist in equipment testing and follow manufacturers guidelines
Perform corrective actions required for out-of-specification conditions as directed by supervisor
Assist in analytical troubleshooting of issues to maintain equipment and facilities
Accurately record and document all completed maintenance, modifications, and repairs
Run company errands and pick up equipment, materials, and supplies as required
Promptly report observed equipment, facility, and maintenance needs to supervisor
Make suggestions for changes which would help the facility achieve improved efficiency, quality, and safety
Assist in maintaining the inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and replacement parts
This position is responsible for safe work practices and responsible manner to prevent damage of equipment or property
Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with coworkers, understand, and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticis
We Are Seeking Candidates with The Following Qualifications
Education College or technical degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred; High school diploma or equivalent plus 3+ years industrial maintenance experience Preferred
Electrical experience commercial 3phase along with machine controls
Must possess troubleshooting skills with mechanical equipment and be analytical
May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends
Must demonstrate the ability to read, write and communicate the English language
Knowledge and hands on experience of computer applications including Microsoft Office and databases is preferred
This position requires the following physical and mental demands consisting of, but not limited to the following:
Must be able to work in an industrial environment at elevated heights and in confined spaces
Ability to bend, pull, stoop, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and reach to perform functions
Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
Ability to hear in person and via phone
Must be able to pass a drug test

Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Ability to read complex hydraulic and electrical schematics
Furnish and maintain a set of hand tools and any special tools required by the company
Ability to occasionally work overtime, stay overnight, and work on weekends when needed
Maintain a valid driver's license
Heavy Equipment Shop Service Technician/Mechanic Physical Requirements:
Pushing/Pulling/Lifting/Carrying up to 100 pounds without assistance
Physical ability to squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb, and reach overhead
Must be able to work in extreme heat or cold and wet, damp, dusty, or windy conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises, hazardous materials, and fumes/odors associated with the shop
Physical ability to perform maintenance on equipment for extended hours, with continual mounting and dismounting throughout the workday
Ability to adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition
