* May accompany students to special classes. Assists students or the resource teacher as needed.
* May be asked to serve as a substitute teacher, as appropriate, if needed. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
* Performs classroom health procedures, when necessary, under the supervision of the school nurse.
* Performs clerical duties as needed or assigned - Checks and records student attendance. Collects and records the collection of money. Keeps bulletin boards and other classroom displays up to date, as requested by the teacher. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom.
* Participates in inservice training programs, as assigned.
* Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of licensed teachers.
* May be asked to substitute as a school crossing guard.
* Performs such other tasks as the teacher or other supervisor may assign.
Terms of Employment:
Ten-month year; work schedule determined by the Principal.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to physically perform the basic operational functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, hearing and repetitive motion. The ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.

Essential Qualifications
Minimum: CDA or NCECC or EDU 119 and 6 semester hours in ECE/CD and one-year early childhood work experience.
AA in field or out of field with 18 semester hours in ECE/CD and 2 years early childhood work experience. Bilingual (Spanish) skills are a plus.
NCPK Teachers - BS/BA degree in ECE/CD with BK preferred, BS/BA degree and actively pursuing a BK-Licensure with completion within three years.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, children, parents, and volunteers.

This residential treatment concept combines promising and evidence-based practices with a strong family transition component and signifies a public-private partnership with the Division of Juvenile Justice which has produced an innovative shift in the way youth are served in North Carolina's juvenile justice system. Intensive, short-term services include individualized treatment and academic plans that combine formal and experiential education, community service, behavioral health, and family counseling in a non-punitive environment designed to address the youth's behavioral challenges through a strength-based approach. Youth also receive accredited education on-site and work together in small group settings with assigned counselors.
