Middle School Classroom Aide Position
Washington, DC
Job Description
Who We Are
Capital Village is a network of micro-schools that puts students first.
Every student is different. But time and time again, they cite the same key issues when it comes to school: They want more authenticity, more skills that are relevant to their everyday lives, and above all, more agency in their own learning experiences. Without these, school fails students - and we believe they deserve better.
Capital Village Schools is born out of the urgent need to rethink the “one size fits all” model of American education. Each Capital Village School will create an environment where all students, regardless of background or circumstance, are propelled toward greatness in college, career, and life. With only 160 students at each school at full capacity, our intentionally small communities will focus on personalizing the learning experience and serving the whole child. Grounded in the principles of EL Education (formerly known as Expeditionary Learning), our students will master academic content through engaging social justice-focused projects.
Who You Are
You believe that school can be different, and you want to use your voice and your skills to help shape an innovative new school model that will ultimately grow to serve hundreds of students across the city.
You are, above all, a learner. Your potential is limitless, because you are constantly growing as a person and as a professional.
You are driven by the belief that all children, regardless of their background or their zip code, can achieve at the highest levels. You believe that it is the job of a school to provide the right academic and behavioral supports so every student can succeed, including the implementation of restorative justice practices.
You are team-oriented and love to collaborate with others.

Capital Village Classroom Aides will be part of a team working together to create a new kind of learning environment for students. We aspire to connect the children of Washington, D.C. with the high-demand, high-growth careers of the future by providing a personalized learning environment paired with high expectations for student learning.
As an Expeditionary Learning (EL) Education school, all instructors will engage students in meaningful, authentic, and productive work that allows them to demonstrate mastery of rigorous learning targets. Aides will receive professional development around blended learning, the specific curricula in use at Capital Village, and strategies and best practices for engaging students. Design and facilitate specialized elective courses, where students explore their interests
Culture:
Model and teach Habits of Character that guide students to become effective learners and ethical people
Use classroom management techniques that make use of restorative practices, promote equity, and create a respectful, collaborative and growth-minded culture
