The Adult Transition Program Teacher is responsible the instruction of our young adult students within our PREP program. Recommended Employment Qualifications
Education:
A bachelor's degree in education or related field of study from an accredited college is required.
Experience:
A minimum of 1 year of prior employment work experience teaching English Language Learning (ELL)/English Secondary Language (ESL) is strongly preferred.
A minimum of 1 year of prior employment work experience working with children and families from diverse cultures with sensitivity to cultural difference and norms is required.
Bilingual Spanish/English fluency is required.
Professional Cetificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Valid certification by the relevant governing authority, Teaching English as Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification, or other appropriate accrediting body and additional training to meet the special need of unaccompanied alien children (UAC) is required.
Valid CPR and First Aid certified upon hire or within 60 days of hire is required.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: To provide creative instruction, both in the classroom and in the community, to special education students, 16-26 years of age, that will allow the students to make growth in the areas of vocation, independent living, and social skills as identified in their IEP. The Transitions Center has two different programs you could be placed in based on our enrollment needs, Secondary Opportunities for Adult Readiness (SOAR) or Work Based Learning (WBL).
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide and utilize instructional plans, strategies, methods, materials and techniques that best meet the needs of the class, as well as individual students.
Provide the leadership, direction and oversight of paraprofessionals working with students within the classroom and in the community.

Complete required paperwork on time and accurately, which may include but not be limited to weekly lesson plans, assessments, progress reports, behavioral support plans, IEPs etc.

Must have full approval as a Special Education Teacher in the State of Michigan
Knowledge of Transition Planning.

Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
Willingness to receive additional training to be certified in CPI and CPR to be a member of the Response Team.
