As a Special Education Teacher, you will work with students with academic or physical challenges. Your goal is to recognize their individual educational needs and set them up for long-term academic success. The ideal candidate is compassionate, creative, and dedicated to helping students reach their potential. Responsibilities: i. (CHANGE) Kids Chat Program. A ninety-minute session for children and parents that is based off the evidenced based program of Nurturing Parents, Community based education for Military Families. The kids chat program will be offered in the evenings, and weekends at the request of units, to provide support to parents with a deployed spouse. Separate areas will be set up for parents and for children. Child discussion areas will be by developmental age groups. Child discussion groups will have a kinetic activity, and discussion will be focused on thriving while a parent is deployed. Parent discussion groups will be facilitator led focusing on nurturing strategies for “suddenly single” parents due to deployment. We anticipate two classes each month not to exceed 24 classes in a 12-month period. Supplies to facilitate the discussion about deployment topics, handouts and resources required for the classes will be government furnished. j. (CHANGE) Parents Support Group for Waiting Families. A ninety-minute session held once a month six times a year that aims to provide support to waiting families, where the family has stayed at Fort Carson while their Soldier spouse has taken an unaccompanied tour of duty. The Waiting Families support group will be for parents and their children and will be structured as a play group. Nurturing parents' topics will be introduced in each monthly session to provide parenting tips and resources for families based on the Nurturing Parents, Community based education for Military Families. Supplies to facilitate the discussion about deployment topics, handouts and resources required for the classes will be government furnished. k. (Change) Parents & Children with Special Needs and Health Challenges class will be offered three times a year and will be coordinated through Child, Youth and School Services. The curriculum will be based off the nurturing parenting evidenced based program. Three programs will run throughout a one-year time frame. Audiences for the classes will target CYS parents and providers and could be taught in an on- premise CYS facility as appropriate for the sign-up. One class will be offered in coordination with the FAP Manager during a weekend or evening time frame for parents with children with special needs. Supplies and workbooks will be government furnished. Instructors will offer sign-up and assessments to attendees. Contractor will provide follow-up to parents enrolled through the duration of the class to encourage participation and attendance. Identify student needs and develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students Modify the educational curriculum to best meet the needs of each student Use a range of instructional methods and learning techniques Create and enforce classroom rules and procedures Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records Write and submit necessary reports Communicate with parents and school personnel Qualifications: Preferred Bachelor's degree or higher and special education license Previous experience as a special education teacher is preferred Deep understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related disorders Strong understanding of child development principles and best practices in education and classroom management Knowledge of classroom health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and ability to closely adhere to the guidelines Excellent verbal and written communication skills Compensation: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour PROVIDING QUALITY STAFFING AND CONSULTING SINCE 2011 Based out of San Antonio, Tex as, our minority women-owned company specializes in all staffing and consulting needs.
