COMMUNICATION
● Internal communication: Voicemail, mailbox and email should be checked daily in order to
ensure intra-school communication. On a weekly basis, any weekly or monthly memos sent
out by staff and administration should be read (i.e. Faculty Friday Update)
● Communicate with parents: Teachers should communicate directly with parents. Phone calls
are the encouraged form of communication for discussion around sensitive topics.
Administrators are available for consultation around sensitive topics.
● Communicate activities: All unit-related field trips need to be approved by the dean of
academics. All other field trips must be approved by the Dean of Experiential Education. The
Dean of Academics and admin assistant must be made aware of any performance/activities
during and after school that involves an outside speaker or parent attendance.
● Parent Square- PK-5 teachers must communicate at minimum every other week with
information about what learning is taking place at school. Photos and upcoming events that
are Grade level specific should be uploaded regularly.
OTHER
● Teachers should provide extra assistance to students as needed.
● The primary behavior procedures should be followed and the appropriate referral forms must
be filled. Behavior concerns should be communicated to parents, dean of students and
counselor as needed.
● Teachers should report accidents as appropriate to the school nurse.
● Teachers share in the supervision of duties of students as assigned (e.g. Recess, lunch, and
arrivals/dismissal). Rainy day recess coverage and lunch while in classrooms is the
responsibility of the grade level team of teachers, assistants, and recess duty supervisors.
● When supervising the playground, teachers should be active and alert; standing with
co-workers or looking at phones is unacceptable.
● Some roles require attendance of camp (such as Big Island Trip in Grade 4).

● Observations are conducted by the head and/or the deans. Teachers are expected to actively
participate through reflections.
● Teachers are expected to complete a professional growth process, which includes goal
writing, observation reflections, and self-assessing on performance rubric with the head or

PRIMARY DIVISION EVENTS (PK-5)
New Family Welcome: Spearheaded by the PFA, this social is geared to all new incoming families,
welcoming them to the school and giving them a chance to meet and mingle with current families. Each
campus hosts its Bienvenue au Jardin event. Attendance by faculty optional.
Meet the Teacher Day (K-5): To orient families to the campus and students to their new classrooms, an
open house is held before the first full day of school. Students are invited to bring in their supplies and
meet their teachers. Parents have the opportunity to share any information essential for the onset of
school, eliminating a hectic morning on the first day.
Parent Orientation Conferences: PK/JK/Kindergarten families participate in a Parent-Child
introductory conference with the child's homeroom teacher the week prior to the beginning of school.
Conference days are not considered as teacher work days and teachers are provided a stipend for an
additional prep day as needed.
Parent Nights: Held in September as noted on the school calendar. Teachers and specialists present their

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES:
Assists Site Coordinators and Youth Directors in the overall program operation and supervision of participants while adhering to program policies and standard operating procedures.
Implement curriculum by leading age-developmentally-appropriate learning experiences in the classroom or group settings, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
Research and develops new activities that are age-appropriate for the group they are leading whilst collaborating with others to share ideas to enhance the overall program.
Facilitates programming that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children in an all-inclusive environment.
Communicate effectively, consistently, and professionally with participants, parents, co-workers, and others associated with the program such as DOE and DHS contacts.
Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the children assigned as well as all other children in the program that may not be overseen directly.
Serve as a role model by relating to program participants through respect and understanding, being sensitive to each child's needs, and providing guidance toward positive youth development.
Maintain accurate participant records and documentation as assigned, following program requirements.
Attend all general and site staff meetings and training sessions and give input. Be open to criticism, suggestions, and training from other staff.
Assist with the responsibility to ensure all facilities, equipment, and supplies at the site are maintained/good/organized/clean.
Ensure that all staff and participants are respectful of facility/property, and all of their rules and expectations are followed.
Wears the required nametag, and is neat, clean, and professional in appearance in accordance with the required dress code.
Exemplifies the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Attend all general and site-specific staff meetings/ training sessions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 18 years old and a high school graduate or equivalent are required.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Working with school-aged children is highly desired.
Must have the ability to demonstrate and show competency in the following areas:
Supervising participants and presenting positive role modeling through all interactions with program participants and others associated with the program.
Meet program goals and expectations as outlined in the Youth Program Policies and Procedures Handbook.

MENTAL DEMANDS:
Caring for children can be stressful. The Keiki Learning Center Teacher's Aide must ensure that children are supervised at all times, and that children are involved in safe and appropriate activities. There may be a number of situations happening at once, and the Teacher's Aide must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time. The position must maintain poise under pressure, respond to crisis situations in a calm and effective manner, and be resilient in the face of workplace stressors such as customer service complaints, maintaining the security of people and property, competing priorities, etc. This position must maintain a self-motivated and self- directed schedule, able to work with limited supervision, and in a team setting with other professionals. The position must prioritize and organize work assignments and take projects from beginning through completion. This position must possess the self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality of work, exercise good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative with projects.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The Keiki Learning Center Teacher's Aide may be lifting and carrying children and equipment and may spend time sitting on the floor or child sized furniture. The Teacher's Aide will be expected to help clean and maintain equipment and facility and may move throughout the community with children. The Teacher's Aide may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves.
