JOB SUMMARY: The Child Development Teacher Assistant is responsible for providing educational experiences and child care services to pre-school age children in accordance with the State Department of Education, Title 5 & 22 guidelines, Department of Social Services, and Community Care Licensing, Division 12 regulations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Enforce State of California licensing rules and regulations for all areas concerned with the operations of child care centers. * Follow Department of Social Services Licensing Division and agency regulations and standards to maintain a safe environment for children and employees. * Follow agency rules as outlined in the employee handbook. * Apply rules and regulations consistently and objectively in dealings with enrolled families. * Staying current of the changes within the Office of Head Start and California Child Development regulations governing operation of child care centers. * Must be committed to continual learning and self- improvement through training, and keeping abreast of requirements and changes within Community Care Licensing. * Assists with planning and setting up a classroom environment according to program curriculum. * Provide a positive climate and high quality, nurturing, and supportive classroom environment that supports children learning utilizing Teaching Pyramid strategies, the Environmental Rating Scales (ERS) and Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) tools. * Discuss assigned duties with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts. * Document observations and assessments, including Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) progress notes, and portfolio samples for the purpose of individualizing for each enrolled child. * Assists in developing daily lesson plans that reflect the goals of the curriculum and the individual needs of the children. * Works in conjunction with supervisor, and the management team in completion of program goals and meeting required deadlines through planning and follow up in a timely manner. * Assist the teacher with supervision in the classroom by consistently accounting for all children throughout the day. * Ensure active supervision is in place which includes the safety and security of all children by maintaining visual supervision and an accurate census of children producible on demand and verifiable by count when requested by management, parents, or regulatory agencies. * Assists teacher with resources for families as identified through needs assessments, and parent/teacher conferences. * Provides support to families through needs assessments, and parent/teacher conferences. * Participates in case conferencing to develop a team approach in providing services to children 0-5 and their families. * Responsible for the quality and timeliness of work, meeting program deadlines, submitting monthly paperwork and reports. * Works with teacher to create a social and emotional climate of care and respect that promotes each child's sense of trust, independence and competence. * Plan and organize classroom experience with the teacher and work with the parents in planning activities to meet the individual needs of their child. * Supports volunteer efforts by helping parents and others feel comfortable and valued when assisting in the classroom. * Perform all other duties as needed and requested. * Follow safety protocol and standards. * Assist Teacher and supervisor as directed. * Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and trainings as directed. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: * High School Diploma or equivalent. * Must have six units (6) of course work in Early Childhood Education. * Must apply for the Child Development Assistant Permit within 30 days of hire and maintain a Child Development Permit: AND complete 25 hours of professional growth, annually. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: * Travel and attend out of area meetings and conferences as required per the funding source(s). * Reliable, insured transportation and valid Driver License. * Reliably and consistently report to assigned work location on time. * Work variable hours and days, including those outside regular Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours. * Meet and maintain KCAO hiring requirements which include: * Criminal Record Clearance including California DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse Centralized Index (CACI), National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW), and the California Sex and Arson Registry (CSAR)(Megan's Law). * Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) acceptable to KCAO's vehicle insurer. * Health examination with tuberculin clearance. * AND contingent on employment candidate will be required to provide documentation of your Measles, and Pertussis immunizations. * Influenza immunization highly preferred. * Ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency.
