Qualifications: Master's Degree in Special Education preferred; Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field required. New York State Certification in Special Education, Literacy, or Students with Disabilities required (or eligibility within one year of hire). Minimum of one year of teaching experience required; supervisory experience strongly preferred. Experience working with students with emotional, behavioral, or developmental challenges. Knowledge of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) practices, or willingness to complete certification training. Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills. In partnership with the Schenectady City School District (SCSD), LPP Certified Teachers from the SCSD assist with the Academic and Support Services component of the SUNY Schenectady County Community College's Liberty Partnerships Program. They recruit students and promote the program within their school. They also provide direct academic support to the program participants during the after-school program activities and summer program. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide a physically, mentally and emotionally safe place for all LPP students. Educator Nestled atop the Helderberg Escarpment, John Boyd Thacher State Park protects over 2,000 acres of high-quality woodland, meadow, wetland, and lake habitat. The New York Natural Heritage Program has identified two Significant Natural Communities within its boundaries, and the entire park is recognized as an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society. The Educator will connect individuals to these valuable resources through guided school field trips, interpretive public programs, tabling events, and other educational engagements. Responsibilities: Help teachers plan and execute engaging, age-appropriate curriculum for preschool classrooms (children ages 3-5) or Early Head Start classrooms (infants and toddlers) Assist with child education plans, assessments, progress notes, and other required documentation. Help maintain a safe, healthy environment, ensuring adequate supervision in all indoor/outdoor activities and compliance with all safety and licensing standards. Support relationship building with parents/guardians to ensure every child's growth, development, and well-being are supported both in and out of the classroom. Assist the classroom teacher in all aspects of programming and care to students QUALIFICATIONS: Team player with the ability to lead and develop strong relationships with co-workers, students and their families. Ability to transfer students with physical disabilities. Experience working with young children with disabilities. High School Diploma or equivalent required; NYS Teacher Assistant Certification preferred (incentive pay base on level) Bilingual Spanish a plus (incentive pay) ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with students individually according to individual education plan or individual program established by the classroom teacher. Be involved with students in all group activities, including but not limited to: language groups, playground, adaptive physical education, etc. Attend daily team meetings. Assist teacher in all daily routines. Assist in preparation and clean-up involved in all aspects of program. Participate in conferences with teacher concerning curriculum for total program for each individual student. Assist and train students in personal care needs, including but not limited to: feeding, toileting, dressing and washing. Assist with loading and unloading students on and off busses. Participate in staff meetings and in-service training. Responsible for the safety of students under his/her supervision. Adhere to the Agency's Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Ethical Conduct. Perform any other related duties as directed by the Teacher and/or designee. Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 3:30 pm Follows Kingston School District schedule for school closings
