NOW HIRING FOR THE 2025/2026 SCHOOL YEAR! Before and after school programming is located at off-site school locations throughout Lowell Area Schools. This position offers a $2/hour shift premium for staff who work both before school program hours and after school program hours in the same day.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Before and After School Program Teachers provide a reliable, safe, and fun environment for children to prepare for their school day and unwind from it. Assistant Teachers will assist in the planning, developing, and implementing of classroom activities for programs. Schedules vary, but require weekday availability, 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM and/or 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists Site Coordinator in developing and leading daily lesson plans
Prepares materials for daily activities
Maintains records of attendance, arrival, and departure times
Provides weekly lesson plans to parents
Provides each participant's parent with information on individual activities on a daily basis
Maintains supervision of children
Assists Site Supervisor with parent-teacher conferences as needed
Maintains the quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom
Performs any other functions deemed to be necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association
COMPENSATION
$15.21 - $19.01; Non-Exempt, Part time (up to 25 hours/week)

Under supervision and direction of the School Nurse, is responsible for providing basic first aid for school children through the School Health Advocacy Program. Works with the school nurse, school staff, other health care providers, community program and others to improve the health and well being of the child. Health aides in this role will be working with moderately cognitively impaired children, assisting with children's daily medical and school needs: daily meds, tube feedings, potentially straight catheters, toileting, and feeding.
Essential Functions
* Administers first aid under the direction of the RN according to school district policies. Administers medications and treatments (such as tube feedings, diabetic monitoring, catheterizing) that are scheduled and as needed, under the supervision of the RN according to school district policies. Collects information, such as vital signs and history of illness or injury and communicates as needed with RN to determine student's disposition. Documents direct and indirect services provided and other pertinent program data.
* Works collaboratively with student, their families and staff to help provide hygiene assistance as needed with toileting, diapering and laundry needs.

* Communicates to the RN information received from students, family members, physicians and other members of the educational team, following FERPA guidelines.
* Continuously collects and documents data regarding: school immunization status, school communicable disease reports, school hearing, vision and lice screenings as well as student health concerns. Acts as a role model and resource to students, their families and the school community to promote a healthy and safe school environment.
* Works collaboratively with student and their families by referring community agencies and volunteers to schedule and provide optimal coordination of services, to facilitate a supportive relationship and to evaluate effectiveness of services provided and plan for future needs.
* Mentors, empowers and advocates for students and their families to help them gain independence with their health care needs.
* Participates in social and physical evaluations that could affect the student at home or in school. Acts as a resource to program staff to discuss barriers about life/situational/cultural factors impacting client, family and environment.
