POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Head Teacher, the Teacher's Aide works for the YMCA of Greater Hartford and is responsible for on-site activity
leadership, working directly with children. Must enjoy working with children, be a team player, be dependable and possess knowledge of positive behavior management techniques.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist the Head Teacher in the preparation and delivery of daily activities by completing assigned tasks.
Serve our diverse communities equitably and act with an inclusive, anti-racist lens at all times; promote a brave, respectful culture at the Y.
Actively participate with children in all activities and during play times, ensuring premier quality and innovation.
Be responsible for clean-up and maintenance of toys and materials after each activity.
Communicate immediately any problems or concerns with the program, staff, children or parents to immediate Supervisor.
Maintain confidentiality of information provided by parents, staff and administration.
Report immediately to supervisor any evidence of child abuse including physical, mental, emotional and/or neglect.
Attend the minimum number of training hours per year as required by State law and/or accrediting agencies, as approved by supervisor.
Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance, exceeding customers' expectations every day, which includes building and maintaining healthy
professional relationships with parents, children, host agencies, and staff.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Qualified Candidate must be at least 16 years old.

Able to be certified in Connecticut Child Care, Adult & Child CPR and attain certification within 90 days of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum requirement is high school diploma or GED plus some experience working with children.
A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is preferred.
A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential;
Within 90 days of employment, must obtain and continually maintain
Be enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree.
An associate or baccalaureate degree (in any area); or
of being hired into the position;
Be enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification (or sooner if required by local/state regulations).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasional need to provide gentle physical restraint to children.
Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.

Noise level in work environment may be moderate to loud.
Travel by car, bus, airplane or train may also be required associated with attendance at conferences, meetings and other duties carried out at distant locations in and out of state and in some cases where some overnight travel may be required.

* Participate with the teaching team, in parent-teacher conferences as scheduled or as requested by parents
* Participate in unscheduled and scheduled supervisory conferences
* Participate in continuing education as required by State regulations or funding sources
* Ensure development and maintenance of positive emotional climate including classroom management strategies that support social/emotional development.
* Provide assistance to director to cover other classrooms' children and activities when needed
* Other duties as assigned
* PQI Functions:
* Ensure the consistent accurate collection of the data
* Identify patterns and trends of administrative services
* Use results of data to inform supervisor of trends that may impact services
QUALIFICATIONS
* Hold a High School diploma or GED and experience working with unrelated pre-school children and
* Enrolled in a CDA program leading to receiving a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential issued by the Council for Professional Recognition and demonstrating continuous progress towards completing 12 additional ECE credits, which will be required for continued employment by 2025. OR
* Hold a CDA credential issued by the Council for Professional Recognition and demonstrating continuous progress towards completing 12 additional ECE credits, which will be required for continued employment by 2025. OR
* Enrolled in a higher education program leading to an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood/Child Development and demonstrating continuous progress towards an Associate's Degree, which will be required for continued employment by 2029.
* Equivalent experience may be substituted at Catholic Charities' discretion
* Child CPR/First Aid certification
* Possess the personal qualities necessary to care for and work with children
* Be at least 18 years of age
REQUIRED:
* A pre-employment health certification, including a documented, negative tuberculin test or normal chest x-ray is required as well as a criminal background check
