FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT, This is a salaried position assigned to the Licensed Employee Salary Schedule.
POSITION SUMMARY: The ESL teacher is responsible for establishing teaching strategies which are based upon proven instructional techniques that are designed to benefit English Language Learners (ELLs) within push-in or pull-out classroom environment. This person will be expected to adhere to the LCSD Professional Standards for Licensed Employees as outlined in policy and the CBA and report directly to the school site administrator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.
Follows mandated compliance standards established by the Federal, the State, or the District regulations relative to ESL program development and implementation.
Maintains appropriate student records and submits required reports and other needed information for the effective, efficient operation of the school within designated time limits.
Demonstrates mastery of content and pedagogy (ESL), knowledge of students and resources, sets instructional outcomes for diverse learners, and designs coherent instruction and student assessments aligned to Common Core State Standards and WIDA.
Demonstrates acceptable command of the English language in written and oral communication formats.
Attends and participates in all required training.
Manages and assigns additional adult program support as necessary i.e. paraprofessional, maintains accurate and timely records in PowerSchool.
Provides meaningful, relevant activities for instruction, and ensures that student progress is monitored through regular data collection.
Communicates learning expectations clearly to students, engages students in learning, embeds assessment in instruction, demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness.
Establishes a culture of learning, creates an environment of respect and rapport, and manages student behaviors

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Training: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; Master's Degree preferred. Experience working with the educational setting in an area of English as a Second Language preferred.
Licenses and Certifications: Must possess or be able to acquire a Nevada teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education and be certified in the relevant subject area. Must possess a TESL endorsement issued by the Nevada Department of Education.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed under the following conditions:

May involve frequent to moderate lifting and other physical demands.

You will be leading a class of Pre-K assessing their current academic level and designing instruction to meet their collective and individual needs. We want to help children reach their full potential and prepare them for kindergarten. You will create weekly lesson plans and monthly newsletters. We work on age appropriate learning activities to build confidence and independence. We also schedule events as a school such as Harvest Festivals, Christmas Programs and visits from Santa Claus, Easter Egg Hunts with Mr. Easter Bunny. We celebrate holidays with classroom parties and teach the children to be giving and helpful to people in need such as our St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital Trike a thons, raising money for children with Cancer. Our school focus' on teaching our students to be kind, respectful and compassionate to others.
Responsibilities
Create and follow a comprehensive curriculum
Teach pre- reading and pre-math skills
Assist children with developing social and emotional skills
Use Love and Logic and Montessori instructional methods and learning techniques
Communicate with parents and other school personnel
Assess student's skills and performance to ensure they are meeting developmental milestones
Qualifications
Must have at least 3-5 years experience as a lead teacher
CDA certification a plus
Strong understanding of child development principles and best practices in education and classroom management
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of classroom health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and ability to closely adhere to the guidelines
Problem-solving and mediation skills
