Part-time Description It is the primary responsibility of the EEC Child Development Teacher's Assistant to provide activities for children from 2-5 years of age in the Early Education Center program, to comply with the overall procedures and policies of the program, and to be an effective witness for Christ. Requirements RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Keep children safe and accounted for. Maintain behavior standards. Complete routine paperwork. Provide first aid and complete accident/injury reports, as necessary. Greet and monitor adults as they pick up children. Assist in daily clean up and closing of the program. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher. Keep children safe and accounted for. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of one year paid or volunteer experience in working with preschool-age children. This can include intern EEC class. Child Development Teacher's Assistant Permit or Higher or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire. Ability to develop cooperative working relationships with coworkers and to relate well to all preschool-age children. Ability to support in the infant/Toddler program if needed. Must be able to bend or squat to attend to children's needs. Able to sit on the ground as needed. Able to lift and carry a 45lb child to safety or in the event of a medical emergency. Able to push or pull a crib or stroller with multiple infants in an emergency. Able to visually supervise children and listen to them to maintain their safety in accordance with California State Licensing's health and safety regulations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position's duties are normally performed in a standard work environment based on the activity scheduled. Some physical effort is required; therefore, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. He or she may be required to walk or sit for extended periods and may be exposed to outside weather conditions, including but not limited to heat, cold, humidity, rain, and direct sunlight. CLASS DEFINITION: On a daily basis, assists with the implementation of age-appropriate curriculum and recreation activities at an assigned day care and/or pre-school site; stimulates the interest of program participants while assisting with the supervision of program activities; helps to maintain a safe, secure, clean and orderly classroom and playground environment; and performs related work as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Incumbents in the Day Care/Pre-School Teacher's Aide classification are temporary employees and may not advance to permanent status in any District job classification. Hours of work vary based on the daily census of program participants. This classification is distinguished from the Day Care/Pre-School Teacher classification in that incumbents in this classification assist with the implementation of program activities and perform more routine childcare tasks under the immediate direction of a Day Care/Pre-School Teacher or Head Day Care Teacher. SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED: The Day Care/Pre-School Teacher's Aide classification receives close to general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures from a Day Care/Pre-School Teacher, Head Day Care Teacher, Assistant Day Care Site Director and/or Day Care Site Director. Incumbents do not supervise or direct the work of others.
