Job Description
Uncommon High School English Language Arts (ELA) teachers are passionate about literature and building an engaging, rigorous classroom culture focusing on helping all students prepare for college. Our teachers become experts in their course content, and have a keen sense of how to motivate and inspire high school students. At the heart of our English classes is an emphasis on reading and student-led discourse. Teachers use a variety of instructional strategies to prioritize discussion, ignite a passion for literature, and promote strong voice and agency within students. Responsibilities
1. Instruction
You'll teach from a robust literature curriculum shared across our high schools that prioritizes inclusive texts, emphasizes diversity, and prepares students for Advanced Placement (AP), SAT and collegiate level coursework.
You'll conduct a deep exploration of daily content in order to guide students to analyze books by authors like James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, F. Responsibilities:
* Plan and implement instruction to ensure that all students meet and exceed Common Core Standards and State Frameworks
* Use of data to inform instruction, to track student progress and to track progress of self through self-evaluation and goal setting
* Deliver engaging, targeted instruction that meets MA DESE and Common Core Standards for level and subject taught
* Differentiate services and instruction to meet variety of student learning needs and strengths
* Maintain active communication with students' families in support of their learning and to communicate with families consistently and regularly throughout the school year about their children's academic and social progress
* Assess student performance using formal, summative, and portfolio assessments to drive instruction
* Perform other duties as assigned by the principal
Qualifications:
* Licensed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

* A demonstrated dedication to lifelong learning, reflection, and continued personal and professional growth.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
