Exceptional Childrens (EC) Teacher Assistant Davidson Charter Academy is seeking a Full-Time Exceptional Childrens (EC) Teacher Assistant to join our team!
We are looking for a caring, patient, and dedicated individual who is passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs. The EC Teacher Assistant will work closely with the EC teacher and classroom teachers to provide targeted academic, behavioral, and functional support. Responsibilities
Provide instructional support to students with IEPs in both inclusive and pull-out settings.
Support individual students or small groups with targeted instruction, remediation, accommodations, or modifications.
Assist the EC teacher in preparing, organizing, and adapting instructional materials based on student needs.
Ensure students have access to necessary tools, resources, and accommodations throughout the school day.
Monitor and document student progress toward academic, behavioral, and IEP goals.
Assist with behavior support plans and implement strategies consistently.
Maintain accurate records and support compliance with IEP requirements as directed.
Collaborate daily with the EC teacher, classroom teachers, and support staff to meet student needs.
Supervise students during transitions, in classrooms, and throughout the school environment to ensure safety.
Uphold and enforce school policies, expectations, and safety procedures.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support students, the EC program, and the school community.
Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience in an educational or childcare setting required.
High school diploma or GED required; associates or bachelors degree in education or a related field preferred.
CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Depending on how the Principal advertises the vacancy, the Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant position may require duties below in more than one area. Each area is an essential function.
Behavior Support This employee will participate in staff development and training to gain knowledge of procedures specific to students with behavioral challenges including Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. The employee in this position will prepare a variety of materials and operate the office equipment necessary to prepare these materials. They will participate in the regularly scheduled Behavior Support Team meetings.
In addition to the Common Competencies and Physical Requirements, the employee in this role: • Provides support to the teacher of students who have behavioral needs and require intensive intervention in order to meet IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals and have success in the general curriculum. • Demonstrates knowledge of the stages of child development. • Communicates effectively to develop positive relationships with school personnel and students. • Assists teachers of exceptional children in the classroom and non-classroom settings to develop behavior management strategies and behavior intervention plans. • May be required to participate in bus driver training and become a licensed Bus Driver. General Definition of Work
Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting a teacher. Employee may perform a wide range of tasks in order to support the efforts of the lead teacher, meet
the needs of all students, and ensure the provision of quality instruction for all students. Employee provides one-on-one assistance with academics and behavioral problems and may lead small group activities. Employee assists lead teacher with general housekeeping and clerical duties. Reports to a Principal and/or lead teacher.
Qualification Requirements
High school diploma and 48 semester hours OR
High school diploma and Associates degree or higher OR
High school diploma and at least silver score on Workkeys
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of daily routines of the classroom.
General knowledge of student handbook rules.
General knowledge of procedures to follow in the event of an emergency
General knowledge of the principles of organization and administration.
Some knowledge of the curriculum for the grade.
Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when student is participating in an inclusive activity.
Ability to motivate students.
Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
Ability to perform general clerical duties.
Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
Ability to operate common office machines.
Ability to maintain basic files and records.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Essential Functions
Assist teacher with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating Instructional activities, developing classroom procedures and preparing necessary materials.
Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students; monitors student attitudes and encourages self-esteem; assists students with becoming increasingly independent.
Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom.
Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instructions; conducts short sessions on improving study skills; provides one-on-one assistance as needed.
Maintains standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students.
Performs general housekeeping duties in maintaining an orderly classroom; performs repair and
maintenance tasks related to school equipment.
Performs various clerical duties as needed, maintains records of student progress; develops and files incident reports; grades student papers and scores tests; checks daily attendance; makes
copies; develops classroom display and instructional materials; maintains and operates audiovisual equipment; orders supplies; maintains class files, etc.
Participates in staff development workshops.
Perform related tasks as required or directed by a supervisor.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs, etc.
Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.
