Summary
Emergency Medical Services Educator (EMS Educator) will provide emergency medical services (EMS) education through Sanford to internal/external customers. Responsible for providing technical and/or clinical knowledge and expertise in EMS-based scenarios in a simulated environment.
Job Description
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. Knowledge of various media, communication, pass on techniques, methods, and be able to facilitate simulation learning and participate in debriefing as well as other learning methodologies. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media. Serve as a simulator operator or clinical expert running pre-programmed scenarios with faculty instructors, assuring all equipment is set up for course programs. Strong interpersonal communication skills and will be providing training for individuals and teams utilizing adult learning principles. Team-oriented, student focused, and self-directed. Ability to troubleshoot potential issues with the simulation equipment and vehicles, possess effective collaborative skills, a strong organization ability and the ability to prioritize. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology. Knowledgeable of current clinical practice and be actively engaged in incorporating current research and evidence-based practice into learning activities. Additional responsibilities will include coordinating programs, course and class schedules, participating in simulation training for educational programs, serving as a mentor and educator for faculty and staff, assuring all equipment is in working order, participating in product-specific vendor training, reporting any concerns with equipment or vehicle in a timely manner, and maintaining all requirements, licensure and certification. Physical activities include, but not limited to, considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25-30lbs. May require standing three to four hours at a time while teaching.
Qualifications
High school or equivalent (GED) required; Associates degree in emergency medical services (EMS) or similar area of study preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, BLS Instructor, or nationally registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher required. Depending on state requirements, individuals may need to have a state license. Based on the level of classes taught, educational, certifications, and experience background as appropriate to class offering. May need to have National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Instructor, American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Life Support (ALS) Instructor.

Purpose of Position:
To assist with providing extra support for children in the Head Start Birth to Five classrooms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program
Education staff are trained as mandated reporters and will report any observations of concern to Cass County Social Services
Responsible for following all Head Start and SENDCAA program policies and procedures including Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality.
Participates in relevant training, including staff meetings, site meetings, and reflective supervision
Education
Maintain working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and the Early Learning Outcomes Framework (Head Start)
Ability to take on tasks such as leading small group activities, reading aloud, transitioning children from one activity to another, and leading large groups at the supervisor's request
Become familiar with and implement a child's Behavior Support Plan appropriately
Assist classroom staff by supervising children in the classroom/bathroom
Assists in educational and enrichment activities such as reading, painting, imaginary play, etc.
Assist in preparing students for nap time
Provide coverage when teachers are away from the classroom such as preparation time or time off
Actively engages with children by sitting on the floor playing with them, engages in conversation with them, and actively works to build a relationship with each child while maintaining awareness of classroom needs
Become aware of Conscious Discipline skills and use them to fidelity in the classrooms
Classroom Organization
Assists in the upkeep and maintenance of the classroom equipment, materials, and supplies
Assists in maintaining a clean and safe classroom by following policies & procedures
Responsible for daily cleaning including wiping down surfaces, sweeping, disinfecting toys/areas, etc.
Assist Teacher and Teacher Assistant in day-to-day classroom planning, preparation, and activities
Respect each family's cultural, ethnic, and linguistic diversity
May be asked to attend home visits when other staff may not be available (Head Start)
Health and Safety
Models/Guides good health practices, such as tooth brushing (Head Start) and hand washing, ensuring they are followed
Assists in implementing family-style meals in a pleasant environment including conversation & socialization. See Mealtime procedure for further instruction
Helps ensure no child will be left alone or unsupervised at any time
Other Duties:

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (required knowledge, skills and abilities):
Should be at least eighteen years of age,
Shall be individuals of good physical, cognitive, social, and emotional health and shall use mature judgment when making decisions impacting the quality of child care;
Shall certify completion of a department-approved basic child care course within the first three months of employment, with the exception of substitute staff members and emergency designees;
Shall certify the staff member's own annual successful completion of the department-approved training related to child care as set forth below:
If working thirty or more hours per week, certify thirteen hours of department-approved training annually;
If working fewer than thirty hours and more than twenty hours per week, certify eleven hours of department-approved training annually;
If working fewer than twenty hours and at least ten hours per week, certify nine hours of department-approved training annually; and
If working fewer than ten hours per week, certify seven hours of department-approved training annually; and
Shall not place a child in an environment that would be harmful or dangerous to the child's physical, cognitive, social, or emotional health;
Receive a two-day, onsite orientation to the childcare program during the first week of employment. The director shall document orientation of each staff member responsible for caring for or teaching children on an orientation certification form. The orientation must address the following:
Emergency health, fire, and safety procedures for the center;
The importance of hand washing and sanitation procedures to reduce the spread of infection and disease among children and staff members;
Any special health or nutrition problems of the children assigned to the staff member;

Child abuse and neglect reporting laws; and
Ensure safe care for children under supervision. Supervision means a staff member responsible for caring for or teaching children being within sight or hearing range of an infant, toddler, or preschooler at all times so the staff member is capable of intervening to protect the health and safety of the child. For the school-age child, it means a staff member responsible for caring for or teaching children being available for assistance and care so that the child's health and safety is protected.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The assistant teacher, shall:
Assist in the supervision of children in various indoor activities for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Assist the lead teacher with age appropriate activities by working with individual or small groups of children (e.g. games, art, music, science, language, nutrition, playground, washing hands, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts and by caring for the child's needs.
Distributes instructional and/or play materials for the purpose of providing children with necessary items and assisting the lead teacher in the assigned room.
