POSITION SUMMARY:
The Teacher is responsible for providing high quality care and education for children in their classroom in compliance with Iowa Department of Health and Human Services regulations. This role involves designing and implementing routines and curricula, fostering children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth, and modeling appropriate practices for classroom team members, including assistant teachers and volunteers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Plan and implement routines and curricula that align with Iowa's regulations, developmental guidelines, and best practices in early childhood education.

Accurately and thoroughly maintain children's attendance, incident, health, observation, and progress records.
Preserve discretion and confidentiality with children's and families' information in compliance with Iowa regulations.
Communicate effectively with team members, collaborate to provide high-quality care for children, and foster a cohesive team atmosphere.
Provide guidance and training to assistant teachers and classroom aides in delivering care and education.
Serve as a lead person within the classroom and contribute to ongoing improvement and policy implementation in consultation with supervisors.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must score at least 100 points under Iowa's point system, with at least 20 points stemming from related experience, and at least 20 points stemming from related education.
High school diploma or GED minimum requirement; additional training, Child Development Associate (CDA), or related degree preferred.
One to two years' experience in a childcare setting is strongly preferred.
Currently hold or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
Ability to meet and maintain certification through Iowa Department of Health and Human Services as a Child Care Lead Teacher.
Other Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. and move frequently to respond to children's needs.
Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Reliable, flexible, passionate about working with children.
Mandatory reporter training for child abuse in Iowa (required within 30/90 days of employment).

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Substitute Paraeducator provides support to students, teachers, and classroom staff by assisting with instructional, behavioral, and/or physical needs in the absence of the regular paraeducator. This role ensures continuity of support services, helping maintain a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist students individually or in small groups with academic activities under the direction of the classroom teacher.
Support students with Individual Education Plans, including implementing accommodations and behavior support plans.
Monitor student behavior and support positive behavior interventions.
Provide supervision during classroom activities, lunch, recess, and transitions including student arrival and departure.
Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment.
Support students with physical or personal care needs (if required and trained).
Document observations and student progress as directed.
Follow lesson plans, routines, and instructions left by the regular paraeducator, teacher, or Principal.
Communicate professionally with staff, students, and others.
Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
May work in general education or special education classrooms.
May involve standing, walking, lifting, or assisting students with physical needs.
May include exposure to students with challenging behaviors.
Schedule and assignments may vary based on daily staffing needs.
Must be able to arrive at the scheduled assignment time.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a non-contract position. Substitute positions work on call as needed for various assignments/buildings throughout the district. Substitute Paraeducators will be required to work a minimum number of shifts/hours in order to remain as an active employee. Substitutes in good standing at the end of a school year may elect to return to their subbing position for the following school year. Work is available daily during the 175 days of the school year.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District's policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Education and Experience:

One to two years' experience in a childcare setting is strongly preferred.
Currently hold or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
Ability to meet and maintain certification through Iowa Department of Health and Human Services as a Child Care Lead Teacher.

Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. and move frequently to respond to children's needs.
