Track and Field Head Coach Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of track and field. Instruct student-athletes in the safety practices associated with track and field. Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship. Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches in conjunction with the Director of Athletics. Understand and implement all appropriate rules and regulations according to MHSAA guidelines. Ensure the integrity and fairness of all sports' tryouts and selection processes, including appropriate and timely notifications that honors the dignity of students regarding their selection. Work with administrators and faculty to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes. Maintain proper control and discipline in a positive manner by establishing good, wholesome rapport through healthy, professional relationships among students involved in athletic programs. Monitor and enforce student-athlete eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation. Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate student-athletes' abilities initially and on a regular basis. Establish and maintain open communication with parents/guardians, students, other coaches, administrators, and faculty. Work with the Director of Athletics and Director of Athletic Operations to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements. Instruct student-athletes in the proper care and use of materials and equipment. Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within the program. Oversee the process of ordering, cleaning, repairing, and storing athletic equipment and uniforms. Accompany and supervise student-athletes during athletic competitions in track and field during away games. Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with the student handbook. Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation. Organize and assist with special activities such as homecoming, lower school visits, senior night, banquets, awards night, and pep rallies. Develop and implement strategies to increase interest in track and field participation. Stay abreast of the latest advances in coaching. Assists in small group pupil instruction; tutors pupils at teacher's request; Assists teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions Assists with set up of classroom and prepares materials for specialized instructional units Handles attendance reports and related clerical functions with the teacher Assists in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current Operates standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc. May escort children to and from various rooms Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: Associate Degree or 48 hours of college credit required to take the Teacher Assistant exam; Experience preferred but not required.
