Position Title: Teacher, Elementary

Reports To: Principal
SUMMARY:
Instructs students at the elementary levels in activities designed to promote social, emotional, and intellectual growth in subject matters and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
Teaches District approved curriculum daily.
Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction. Adapts the curriculum to provide differentiation to individual students and small groups.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and meets the social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs of students.
Translates lesson plans into developmentally-appropriate learning experiences daily.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of grade level Iowa Core standards.
Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc. and communicates these objectives to students.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities daily.
Assists students in establishing and maintaining standards of behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere daily.
Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports as appropriate and required.
Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and assists in developing strategies for individual education plans daily as needed.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner daily as needed.
Communicates regularly with parents outside of the normal classroom day by various means such as newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc. daily as needed.
Plans, coordinates and supervises the work of teacher associates, parents and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips as needed.
Works as a team member on building level committee and collegial activities within the building and District.
Collaborates with peers in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to identify required knowledge, skills and outcomes, analyze evidence of student learning, develop timely and systematic interventions for struggling learners and provide enrichment and extension activities for proficient students.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
Meets core expectations for all certified staff reflected in the Iowa Teaching Standards, Iowa Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics, Iowa Administrative Code, Board Policy, and the district performance evaluation system.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students during all school-related activities and teacher associates and volunteers as appropriate.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

* Teach weekly practice sessions with students in beginning German. (not more than 6 hours per week for 4 hour-long meetings and 2 hours of preparation time each week) * Attend weekly extracurricular programming such as Deutschtisch (lunch on Mondays), Kaffeestunde (one afternoon each week)
* Provide support to students learning German classes by holding office hours
* Attend all departmental events (guest speakers, film screenings)
* Work with residents of German House to plan cultural events related to German-speaking cultures
* Total work schedule not to exceed 20 hours/week

Educational Advancement Pay Increases
In addition to annual raises, salary increases are applied as you advance your education:

Longevity Incentives
To recognize long-term commitment to Fairfield Community School District, the following longevity bonuses are provided:
After the 2nd year of certified FCSD service:
If converting from an initial license to a standard license and returning to FCSD the following year, a one-time longevity bonus is paid in June.
If the initial license is not converted until the 3rd year, a $500 bonus is paid at that time.
After the 5th year of certified FCSD service:
A one-time longevity bonus is paid in June and continues at the following milestones:
5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th year, and every five years thereafter.
